@jackrusher Epictetus quote is a good one! Much of the experimental/ conceptual art I encounter suffers from the need to be explained. It must be first, only secondary should it want to be explained.
@jackrusher “On se mesure selon la résistance qu’on rencontre.” --> “One measures oneself according to the resistance one finds.” --> words I need to remember every day
Evaluating the relevance of Clojure to programming by popularity is a bit like judging the influence of a band like the Velvet Underground (or in tribute to Rich King Crimson) by how often they are played on Top-40 radio (#clojure is my favorite band).
Terry Winograd on the famous natural language understanding system SHRDLU that he built at MIT in 1968–1970. A mixture of over-promising, rigged demos, and assumptions about unending improvement curves ultimately led to the first AI winter…
@borkdude Thanks! Programming will not be central to my work, I can already see places where Babashka will be an ideal tool for ad-hoc solutions. Also people working at the intersection of art and technology need to be (at least) familiar with Lisp languages, IMO
@danielwithmusic New leading indicator of impending failures: apply FFT on voice of Jim Cramer when telling you something is a sure bet. When power spectrum approaches sound of squeaking chalk, get out.
@janetacarr What are thoughts about zippers in Clojure? It took me a little while to get the hang of 'em, but now they feel very natural to me. I sometimes think I overuse them, perhaps because of my initial investment.
Traversing a tree in #Clojure can be a bit of a pain
Mostly because I find loop-recur to be a bit awkward
So I just use reduce and recursion for relatively shallow tree traversal (<500 levels, probably)
Anybody want to do 🎄Advent of Code with Clerk this year? I've just created a template repo that should make it easy to get started: github.com/nextjournal/ad…
"More than 95% of organisations's problems derive from systems, not from individual workers. Without conscious effort attention to systems, you will focus on people. People are doing best, but their best efforts cannot compensate for your dysfunctional system." -Peter Scholtes
