NEWS: Former Boston College guard Akbar Waheed III has committed to St. Bonaventure, he told ESPN. He’s a former four-star prospect who earned two-time All-Met honors at Georgetown Prep. He redshirted this year at BC and has four years remaining.

The valley is where resilience is built, character is formed, commitment is established, belief is solidified. Most people aren’t made for the valley. They give up. They find an excuse. They seek comfort. They let fear win. The greats keep showing up.

Viewed as a marginal D1 prospect in HS. Waited until Villanova finally offered. Became one of the best players in school history. Undrafted. Injured. Grinded in the G League. Proved he belonged in the NBA. Now the Suns’ single season 3-point record holder. Pretty remarkable.

UMBC has won its first America East regular-season outright title since 2008. The Retrievers have won 8 straight and have earned the No. 1 seed in the tourney. Jim Ferry has now won regular-season conference titles at 4 different stops: UMBC, LIU Brooklyn, Adelphi and Plymouth State.
