@tylasmole @eroyor @SnowMonsterNJ @TRHLofficial What a clown... No, I didn't learn a single formula. I just know what each one is for and when to use them. Hypocrite, you're complaining that I'm comparing multiplication to calculus, but you don't see that he uses algebraic formulas to calculate the simplest arithmetic.

@Miksus6 @eroyor @SnowMonsterNJ @TRHLofficial The reason is obvious, you’re just being dense lol. There’s not “only one formula,” *you* only *learned* one formula and are overreacting about encountering another valid perspective

@Staladus @sopbeen Only choosing the second option threatens someone's death. So anyone who chose the 2 option is responsible for their eventual death, when everyone else could have safely chosen the 1 option without worrying about whether anyone would choose differently.

I have no idea why you would press the red button. It's 100% vs 51% the answer is clear here.

Sauron was defeated precisely because he couldn’t fathom anyone picking blue. Who would be stupid enough? Frodo and Company toppled a dark lord not through might of arms, but through commitment to Virtue. Subverting the empire for the kingdom
orthodoxmason@orthodoxmason

@IntractableLion Game theorists often conflate a self-interested rationality choice as the right choice. Once the right choice is defined as a form of “payoff” and you think in terms of maximization, you lose the ability to think in terms honor and fidelity. Virtue doesn’t live in a calculus.

@sam_knight87669 @orthodoxmason In this scenario, the downside of picking red is the mass death of others. If you don't consider that a downside that's... par for the course for an AI bro.

@LevantineDream @sattingstacks @ThinkWiselyMatt If that's the case, it's worth considering risking your life to help someone. But I wouldn't expect that from everyone. If we're standing on an empty track and a guy from x.com decides that they will be on the wrong track because are morally better. Then meh

If a child stumbles on the track with the train going on it, would you try to save them (risking your own life) or would you just tell them “sucks to suck, shouldn’t have gotten on that track”? I like to think I would be, and I aspire to be, someone that would try to help. What about yourself?

@tylasmole @eroyor @SnowMonsterNJ @TRHLofficial Mad? If that's what you call it, then I'm mad at this nonsensical comment. The guy transforms a simple square root into algebraic formulas for no reason. And the other guy tells me he showed me how the formula works. Incredible. There is only one formula for this problem: 5*5

@eroyor @tylasmole @SnowMonsterNJ @TRHLofficial No one asked if the formula works, it is not used to calculate this situation at all. Next time someone asks what 5*3 is, the guy will start writing out an integral to calculate it.

@doomscrollering @rtalbot @uncatherio Dude... you have a choice between returning the shopping cart back or waiting to see if 50% of people return the shopping cart and if they don't return it, you won't return it either. And you choose the second option... everyone should just return the shopping cart

I keep finding it surprising that people do not understand that choosing red has a side effect: it increases the number of people that must choose blue.

@LevantineDream @sattingstacks @ThinkWiselyMatt Of course, blue is the one who kills. It's the only option where you can die, just don't choose it. You have a track with nothing going on and a track with a train going on, but if enough people stand there, the train will stop. You choose to stand on the track with the train.

Backwards cope. “Others will die but at least I’ll live” is cowardly and selfish behavior, no matter how much you try to lie to yourself about it. Also, the blue button isn’t the one doing the killing. I don’t know how you got that idea in your head, so the whole “aiming for my own head” idiom falls flat.

@LevantineDream @sattingstacks @ThinkWiselyMatt I'd like to live in a world where everyone clicks red because it means everyone is smart. It's the blue ones who are the height of selfishness. You aim for your own head and say that if everyone else doesn't aim for theirs, you'll hurt yourself.

If this scenario were to play out in reality and red wins, all it takes is like 5 rounds of playing “Press the button”, billions would die and the human species would collapse. If blue wins, we all keep on living. Nothing happens. I want to live in a world where blue always wins. Red pressers should be grateful that they’re a minority and that the selfless outnumber the selfish.

@Gryffix Dude... The Blue jumped in front of the train and then managed to stop it. And then they scream about moral superiority and how bad the Red are. The Red simply looked at the lunatics who were endangering themselves.

@ORdemonchild @justalexoki lol, "blue saves everyone," from whom? From those who pressed blue? Blue saves themselves after bringing danger upon themselves. Blue creates the problem and then rejoices in the moral superiority of having solved their own problem.

If you press blue, the worst case is you die. If you press red, the worst case is you took part in an action that killed just under half of humanity. Clicking blue minimizes the worst-case moral injury. It says you’d rather die than risk contributing to the death of another.
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

It’s simple to me. If you believe 100% of people will pick red, pick red. If you believe even 1 person will pick blue, you should pick blue. I think >50% will know the second is the actual reality and they’ll pick blue.

@Notanu2345 @Trevdog306 @WokeFDR Uncaring about others? Blue one doesn't care about others. They want everyone to risk their lives for no reason. Have you ever considered not trying to kill yourself, so that everyone else wouldn't have to try to kill themselves, so that you all would survive?
