@jasonmauck1 Jason, back in 2018 I had a dream of strip cropping on 40’ an running corn an rye harvest rye to sell for cover seed then plant clover peas vetch oats in that 40’ pass after harvest an plant corn there the next year.
Question I’ve wrestled with is 40’ to wide to max benefits?

I came across a post on the fertilizer ratio to corn price. Stone X did the research and the math and they are not wrong. @JLinvilleFert We can get down on ag and wallow in self-pity or stand up and fight.
1. Fertilizer efficiency per bushel has never been better. Investment in precision technology is rising. Investment dollars are tight so let's get them placed in high value optimization work.
2. We can hedge of higher December futures than the price in the data today. We can then turn the grain over to the "elevator" side of our farm to earn carry.
3. The import tariffs on PHOS are providing a profit umbrella to largely ONE company. MOSAIC has 74% of the US market. Can someone look at the world price vs US price? Take the difference, if it exists, X Mosaic sales? Let's be data driven and fight inflation

Nebraska's farmers have been anxiously waiting for today's announcement, and we appreciate EPA’s efforts again giving us access to dicamba for over-the-top use on soybeans. Nebraska Farm Bureau has and continues to be a supporter of crop protection product technology, and we thank EPA Administrator Zeldin for his continued support of these technologies. The use of this product has the potential to save Nebraska farmers thousands of dollars due to reduced weed pressure and potential fewer passes with a sprayer. 🚜 America’s cotton and soybean growers are a vital element of US agriculture. Cotton farmers across the southern United States have been particularly vocal about why they desperately need Over The Top dicamba application as herbicide-resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth have become nearly impossible to control with other available tools, threatening crop yields and farm viability. These "super weeds" can grow 3 inches per day and destroy entire fields. To be clear, dicamba has already been on the market and available for sale and in wide, continuous use on farms across the United States totally aside from farmers’ pleas for OTT application. The IRS is going to start screening my calls
Me: "Hi, I'm calling because I got this penalty notice and---"
Agent: "Tax ID please"
Me: "---I don't think I owe this. The notice shows a 1099 I didn't receive"
Agent: "So you didn't report a 1099?"
Me: "Right, because I never got it."
Agent: "Well I see it here on your account."
Me: "You see the 1099?"
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "So you have the 1099, and I don't have the 1099."
Agent: "Correct."
Me: "And I'm being penalized."
Agent: "You should have received it."
Me: "But I didn't. And you did."
Agent: "The employer was supposed to send it."
Me: "But they only sent it to you."
Agent: "We were both supposed to receive copies."
Me: "So they failed to send it to me, they succeeded in sending it to you, and I'm the one getting penalized."
Agent: "You need to report your income, sir."
Me: "How? I don't know what it is."
Agent: "It's on the 1099."
Me: "Which I didn't have."
Agent: "You still need to report it."
Me: “How? You're the one with the information."
Agent: "That's between you and your employer"
Me: "I'm just trying to understand. You have the document. You know the amount. You caught the discrepancy. Without me doing anything. And now I owe money?"
Agent: "You owe a penalty."
Me: "For what?"
Agent: "Not reporting the income."
Me: "That I didn't know about."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "That the IRS knew about."
Agent: "Correct."
Me: "But I should have known about."
Agent: "Right."
Me: "And that's my problem? How do I know there's not more missing stuff?"
Agent: "Well you could request your Wage and Income Transcript. It shows all your income sources we have record of."
Me: "Wait. You have a... transcript?"
Agent: "Everyone has a transcript, sir. It shows all reported income and some deductions."
Me: "You can see all my income."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "From the 1099s and W2s?!”
Agent: "Right."
Me: "So you have a complete record of my income."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "And you knew about this 1099 because it's on that transcript."
Agent: "Yes."
Me: "So why does anyone file a return? Couldn't you just... look at the transcript and know what someone owes?"
Agent: "I don't---."
Me: "But instead you make everyone fill out forms?"
Agent: "That's how tax works, sir "
Me: "Can I see the transcript?"
Agent: "Of course. You just needed to request it"
Me: "Why wouldn't you just automatically send it to me every year?"
Agent: "We don't do that sir."
Me: "So the IRS requires me to transcribe information that's already on your transcript that you make me request so that you can penalize me when I don't transcribe it correctly?"
Me: "Feels like a set-up"
Agent: "That's how tax works. Is there anything else I can help you with today, sir?
Me: “I’d like to go ahead and request that transcript can you send it to me?”
Agent: “Sure thing, I’ll get you that fax number”

@NebGradDubDub @GeoffreyRuth @sustainablegreg Unscientific personal observation - di-flexx and status sprayed on corn caused more damage than dicamba sprayed on beans. EPA needs to approve a label so we have can have access to multiple options for weed control

If someone farmed through the 70’s and is still farming today good for them, but they have had 55 years of gov support so far. Your point reinforces what I’m trying to say. With no incentives or benefits to the “marginal class” of young farmers, and no protection of catastrophic loss in early years or back to back drought etc, only those with cash, owned land base, and sufficient margin contribution are left to scoop up the failure. This is what commodity markets demand. Without subsidization, the true commoditization (and consolidation) will occur at speeds that will make most people’s heads spin.

Nebraska Farm Bureau continues to be a strong supporter of the work of the Nebraska Brand Committee, including its important role in mitigating cattle theft in our state. While we have been open to discussions centered around modernization to ensure the current fee system is equitable for program participants, our members have made it clear that they are not supportive of changes that would effectively end the mandatory brand inspection program as it exists today in favor of a voluntary statewide system as proposed in LB 1258, legislation introduced by Sen. Ben Hansen of Blair. Given the volume of questions we’ve received about the legislation, we felt it is important to be clear that Nebraska Farm Bureau is opposed and will actively work to stop any effort to implement a statewide voluntary brand inspection system.
