@matthewbaszucki I got much better rapidly on carnivore. It wasn’t just ketosis. The diet reduced inflammation, which in turned reduced daytime sleepiness. I had been on the AIP diet but carnivore worked much better. I’d encourage people to experiment.

A question I get a lot: Do I have to go full carnivore to recover from a mental illness? Maybe, but probably not. I went carnivore after almost five years of regular ketogenic diet. My recovery happened on keto with vegetables, avocado, olive oil, broccoli, and all of it. Carnivore is a tool for people whose ketones are stubborn, who have sensitivities to plant foods, or who, like me, just seem to feel significantly better without them. Start with standard keto. 75% of calories from fat, 20% from protein, 5% from carbs. Track your ketones. See where you land. If you can't get stable ketosis after a month of doing it right, then start eliminating foods systematically. Carnivore is the end of that process, not the beginning.

@SamaHoole When I went to Red Robin recently, the server recognized me and said, “Oh, you’re my fellow carnivore/ketovore.”

Me: "Two ribeyes, please. Just the steaks." Waiter: "Two ribeyes for the table?" Me: "Two ribeyes for me." Waiter: [does not write this down] Me: "Both medium rare." Waiter: "Are you waiting for someone?" Me: "No." Waiter: "Right." He leaves. He returns with a more senior waiter. Senior Waiter: "Sir, I understand you'd like two ribeyes." Me: "Yes." Senior Waiter: "Together?" Me: "One after the other is fine." Senior Waiter: "And no sides." Me: "Correct." Senior Waiter: [the long pause of a man calculating whether the kitchen will refuse] Senior Waiter: "Of course, sir." They brought out the first ribeye with the energy of a hostage exchange. The second arrived twelve minutes later with no commentary at all. Acceptance, I think. They had moved through denial, bargaining, and arrived at the meat.

A SINGLE 20g dose of creatine increases cognitive processing speed by 24.5% within 3.5 hours. A placebo-controlled trial found that creatine rapidly enhanced brain bioenergetics and improved cognitive performance during sleep deprivation, with effects lasting up to nine hours.

I bought myself a laptop battery pack. Now I can sit at a picnic table in a public garden or by nature trails and enjoy working outdoors for hours and hours. It’s cheaper than Starbucks and far more beautiful. The Bible says that God put the first man and woman in a garden. I see why.

Dopamine controls your perception of time. If your days feel like they’re flying by, you are dopamine depleted. -The fix: Less → scrolling, blue light. More → sunlight, time outside.

It’s important to recognize when a child is not communicating or socializing normally so we can seek interventions. One of our daughters displayed mild signs of autism. We addressed her sleep (adenoidectomy), put her on methylated B vitamins, and got her involved in sports. The combination has made a significant difference. Our goal is not labeling her but helping her thrive.

@uTobian @stkirsch Another contributor appears to be the MTHFR gene variant, which is significantly associated with autism (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…). Thank you for your research in this area! The more we know, the more cases we can prevent and the more we can treat successfully.

I'm often asked, "What percent of autism cases are caused by vaccines?" Now I have a precise estimate using the latest data and the standard epidemiological measure — Population Attributable Fraction. The answer is 75.6% to 79.6%. tobyrogers.substack.com/p/what-percent…

@MillerJohnAllan @GeoffWacker ABSOLUTELY EVERY SINGLE TIME We actually run them as co-ops. We only manage the shared services & their cost. We regulate nothing. We are not a government, just the management for shared services. I don't grasp a single reason shy any HOA should exceed that limited function.

@GrulkeLamonte We have a studio apartment instead of an attached garage. It helps pay for a chunk of the mortgage. Managing it only takes 1-2 days a year. Definitely worth it.

I’ve noticed a growing trend in home buying, with people increasingly seeking ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units). I believe the rising cost of homes has contributed to this shift in mindset. Going forward I will be adjusting the way I build to offer this as much as possible.

The way gov SHOULD be funded is to propose a budget for a set of offered gov services, put it to the electorate to vote on as a ballot referendum, and then (if passed) "Bill" every resident the monthly, quarterly, or yearly assessment (whatever method was defined by the ballot referendum). While representative gov should be permitted to make laws, all financial allocation should be put to the voters to decide. All expansion of services, and cost adjustments should likewise go to the electorate directly. "Taxation" by elected representatives is an worst possible way to raise revenue.

We need to look past the challenges. We’re not merely solving squabbles, we’re training them to collaborate and negotiate. We’re not just building them a swingsets and playhouses, we’re building a legacy. After we’re gone, they will continue to live out the virtues we taught and modeled for them.

Parenting is hard. I don’t know anyone who really thinks they’re doing it well. I lie in bed at night replaying the day, thinking about all the missed opportunities to teach and guide my kids well. We’re in a season of chaos. Our 4th was born last Friday. He’s home now and the other three are all trying to find their place in the new shape of our family. Today Haven and Isaiah set up a little “picnic” at their table in the living room. Kara and I looked over and caught them praying over their pretend meal. We might fail in 1000 different ways. But if we can get that one right, they’re going to be just fine. And so far, they’re getting it.

It truly is wonderful. I love my three daughters. I will say that your health makes a huge difference in how much you enjoy it—so protect it at all costs. Eat real food, get exercise, get needed nutrition. If you are struggling in health, find the best doctor you can afford, someone who can help you with those things.

I accidentally outed myself on a preschool field trip. We were touring a hydro dam and the tour guide said "2.8 million liters of water go through this pipe every minute; if someone needs 4 liters of water every day, how long would that last them?"
