Let's be honest bathong - Many so-called celebrities in SA won’t speak on illegal immigration, their nigerian drug dealers, or the damage in our communities. We shouldn't expecting any moral leadership from people that are deeply tied to the very culture they rely on for self-preservation! Most didn’t rise to fame through intellect, real talent, hard work, or any real sense of responsibility. They rose through pretty-priviledge, and in the case of men - their doorway was being the popular boy in the hood or in high school. 20yrs ago all they aspired for was to be on Hectic99 or working at YFM; today it’s rebranded as “influencing.” The label has changed, but the substance largely hasn’t... same shit, different toilets! Expecting them to suddenly speak up and disrupt the very ecosystems they are deeply embedded in is an over-strech! From RazzMatazz in the late 90s, to Taboo in the 2000s, to today’s Saints, Okio, LIV and the rest... the venues change, the circles evolve, but the culture stays consistent! This is their playrgound. They wouldn'd dare march shoulder-to-shoulder with ordinary South Africans! We will #MarchAndMarch #UntilWeWin and they will continue to bury their head in the sand. Access to the illicit economy perpetuated & driven by nigerian drug dealers, excess drugs, alcohol, and sex, and the silence that keeps this wheels moving is their bread & butter... And that silence is not accidental. It’s not ignorance. It’s alignment!!!! Many are socially and, in some cases, financially intertwined with the very networks they would need to call out. Speaking up would mean isolating themselves from the same spaces that sustain their relevance. And here's another interesting fact, they also rely HEAVILY on @MYANC and @EFFSouthAfrica gigs and their proximity to the leaders to these political parties. Why bite the hand that feeds you?!
