Have a background in bioinformatics/genomics? @UWVirology is looking to hire an intern to assist with data analysis and data management for our #SARSCoV2 #HCoV19 sequencing team. Full time and looking for someone who can start right away. (Thx @nextstrain for the screenshot).

.@RichardEngel: "This is a virus that came from the territory of China but came from bats. This is a bat virus, not a China virus. It doesn't speak Chinese. It doesn't target Chinese people. It targets human beings who happen to touch their eyes, nose or mouth."

@obigriffith Get well soon! Your family and Alex’s family too. Indeed we need expanding the text capacity. But the bottleneck is also nasal swabbing which requires PPE. We can’t let our health care workers go to fight COVID-19 without PPE! It’s sad to read about nurses making face shield..

Ditto this thread. In almost the same boat. Son sent home with mild fever. Wife and I also have mild cold symptoms. Or maybe seasonal allergies. Or maybe covid19. No way to know...
Alex H. Wagner@HandlerWagner

A thread about #COVID19 and my life. My daughter, 3 years old, was sent home early from daycare today with a mild fever. I drove to the school, and picked up her and her brother. My wife immediately packed up at her work and headed home.

Higher co-infection rates (>20%) in COVID19 at Stanford med. Can't rely on stepwise triage algorithm. (E.g., Patient RSV or Flu+, enough chance of COVID19 that you can't rule it out) link.medium.com/alOn6PZLX4

A small update on genomic epidemiology of the #COVID19 epidemic in Washington State (where we have lots of data) and elsewhere in the US (where data is sparse). 1/8

@JohnLynchID @PergamIC I got the experience of 24hr TAT to the minute from nasal swab to email result notification. Outstanding job of @UW Virology! So proud of this organization!

Everyone needs to take a look at this chart and understand the importance of social distancing.
Trevor Bedford@trvrb

Work by colleagues at @IDMOD_ORG that takes current best estimate for number of active #COVID19 infections and simulates forward under different degrees of social distancing. A 25% reduction in mixing results in more than a 50% drop in cases after 1 month relative to baseline.

It appears we are a week or so behind Italy. A ban on flights from Europe isn’t going to change that. More decisive federal action — massive testing and social distancing — appears to be necessary to “flatten the curve.”

Proud to work @fredhutch, where we're taking proactive measures to ameliorate #COVID19 spread as much as possible. Other employers / institutions take note! (Yes, we can still work in lab, but no meetings / seminars / travel and work at home when you can) fredhutch.org/en/news/releas…
