@laurensam What would you do if you were running a B&B in 1939 in the UK, and you got a reservation from potential Nazis from Germany? I think the Airbnb host was super nice and adhered to their principles, over business. Free Palestine 🇵🇸

Just booked an Airbnb in the lake district for my family holiday. After reading my reviews and seeing one from Israel I get a reply from the owner saying "I'm pro-palestine, don't want things to be awkward for you" - well they would have been less awkward without that reply...

Andy Burnham voted for the Iraq War, an illegal war that killed over a million people. As Health Secretary, he helped drive NHS privatisation. He joined Labour Friends of Israel, opposed BDS as “spiteful”, praised Israel as a “democracy”, and called the Balfour Declaration “British values in action”. He is a Zionist. Stop pretending he’s a radical alternative, he’s more of the same.

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

@zarahsultana I am conflicted he’s been a decent mayor of Manchester, seems like a fairly principled man, but you and Corbyn campaigning for him in this way sets off red flags.

NEW: After giving Harriet Harman a job, Keir Starmer has now made Gordon Brown his Special Envoy on Global Finance. A Labour source says: “It’s the Government of the Auld Talents.”

Why do leaders of the Greens have such difficulty naming the particular demographic likely to be most ‘shaken’ and ‘affected’ by two men from their community having their throats cut on a London street?

@Saeed07868 @HolyoakeJ14576 @RichardBurgon No real breakdown of innocents vs militias, or people used by Hamas PIJ etc, or those killed by friendly fire or in factional clashes. But yes the loss of innocent lives are a shame, no matter which country or nationality. But genocide has a legal definition, and it’s misused.

🚨BREAKING: 75 MPs now back my Parliamentary motion for widespread sanctions on Israel. As well as genocide in Gaza and war crimes in Lebanon, Israel is deepening its occupation of the West Bank. There's just a week left to back this sanctions call. Ask your MP to do so below.

Just going to say that whenever you see someone “spill tea” on a former friend, you should judge both of them for the actions of said “tea” because you can’t sit on things you believe are wrong enough to be aired publicly for years. Which means you were okay with the behaviour

Tonight Labour MPs voted to erode our right to protest, handing police sweeping powers that could criminalise sustained strike action as "cumulative disruption." This is a direct escalation against the Palestine solidarity movement that has brought hundreds of thousands onto the streets. It follows the unlawful proscription of Palestine Action, a lost High Court battle they are still appealing, the targeting and failed prosecutions of artists, and over 3,000 arrests for holding a placard opposing genocide. The Labour Party is nothing more than Reform with a red rosette.

Great to catch up with my friend @JDVance today in DC following his talks in Pakistan. It is vital that the ceasefire continues and we get shipping flowing freely again through the Straits of Hormuz. We continue to work together towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

@ZackPolanski There was never a denial that the U.K. was operating in a defensive manner, unless you think Irans drone strikes against Saudi, Bahrain, UAE, amongst others should have been allowed to go uninterrupted when there was a capability to help those countries that were also uninvolved
