Introducing Adaptive Computer. We put AI inside of an always-on personal computer that it uses to get work done. Schedule agents. Create software. Automate anything. As part of the launch, we’re giving one free month of Adaptive to users. Retweet, like, and comment ‘Adaptive’ to get it.

@dougli_ @karpathy @dougli_ Some friends of mine are investing heavily in planning or building their own verification layers (scoring systems, checklists, etc.). Curious what approaches you’re using. Do you think this problem will eventually be solved by better models, or by better harnesses?

@karpathy I'm finding the biggest bottleneck is verification. Can't test outputs fast enough and I don't trust them enough when they say stuff works. Automated tests only get so far sometimes.

Expectation: the age of the IDE is over Reality: we’re going to need a bigger IDE (imo). It just looks very different because humans now move upwards and program at a higher level - the basic unit of interest is not one file but one agent. It’s still programming.
Andrej Karpathy@karpathy

@nummanali tmux grids are awesome, but i feel a need to have a proper "agent command center" IDE for teams of them, which I could maximize per monitor. E.g. I want to see/hide toggle them, see if any are idle, pop open related tools (e.g. terminal), stats (usage), etc.

@buckeyevn @karpathy @buckeyevn How are you and your team dealing with this today? Is everyone basically handling it on their own with custom harnesses and tooling?

@karpathy The gap is observability. "Monitoring my agents" today = reading chat logs, which is printf debugging for distributed systems. One bad edit spirals into 5x tokens through retries and you don't even see it. Whoever builds the Datadog for agents is sitting on a goldmine.

@MatthewBerman @agentmail Just for fun tbh, my friends are on it too and we have our agents talking to each other even while we're asleep, exchanging context and exploring topics

Daegwon Nacyot Kim@nacyotKim

Strong piece. One extension: if code generation becomes abundant, the next bottleneck may be org design. As you noted with electricity, productivity didn’t really surge until workflows and org charts changed. AI may be similar. In that sense, your org/workflow can become a startup’s margin. So the question is not just who can generate code, but who can redesign the work system and orchestrate AI agents effectively. That makes me think the bigger opportunity may be less in generating more software, and more in building agentic systems for real work — especially in service industries.

youtube.com/watch?v=1qYuyG… I am sitting down with @bellman_ych, the creator of oh-my-codex and oh-my-claudecode today for a deep fireside chat on what comes next for open-source agent orchestration. Harness engineering is fundamentally rewriting how we ship software.

ELEMENTS OF
SUSTAINABLE COMPANIES Start-ups with these characteristics often foretells the success of a business and the likelihood of it becoming a sustainable, enduring company. We like to partner with companies that have: CLARITY OF PURPOSE Summarize the company's business on the back of a business card. LARGE MARKETS Address existing markets poised for rapid growth or change. A market on the path to a $1B potential allows for error and time for real margins to develop. RICH CUSTOMERS Target customers who will move fast and pay a premium for a unique offering. FOCUS Customers will only buy a simple product with a singular value proposition. PAIN KILLERS Pick the one thing that is of burning importance to the customer then delight them with a compelling solution. THINK DIFFERENTLY Constantly challenge conventional wisdom. Take the contrarian route. Create novel solutions. Outwit the competition. TEAM DNA A company’s DNA is set in the first 90 days. All team members are the smartest or most clever in their domain. "A" level founders attract an "A" level team. AGILITY Stealth and speed will usually help beat-out large companies. FRUGALITY Focus spending on what's critical. Spend only on the priorities and maximize profitability. INFERNO Start with only a little money. It forces discipline and focus. A huge market with customers yearning for a product developed by great engineers requires very little firepower.
