What are the studies out there on emergent emoji meaning and usage? If they exist?

Do personal pronouns in pro-drop languages have a deictic function?

@YeahThatCindy I have this problem consistently because my pronunciation is usually pretty decent but I don’t know that many words and people just start going “Oh! You speak [language]! [insert rapid paced speech]” and I have to stop them before we both get more confused.

I think the most impressive thing you can do in a new language is say enough to a local that they think you understand more than you do 🏆
