@DonaldClark @MirjamN @P_A_Kirschner We don't do that in our ITE. Balance between practical experience (50%), and practical theory/knowledge that is theory-informed. Then again, I rarely expect much nuance about ITE on Twitter, save a few accounts.

New teachers are like young swimmers. Throw them in the pool at the deep end and there's a good chance they'll drown. Give them the support and guidance they need, and they’ll possibly become top swimmers. New blog with @P_A_Kirschner

@DonaldClark @P_A_Kirschner In my initial comment I was referring to primary education.

@MirjamN @P_A_Kirschner So the problem is that they do a bad job? I'd agree. Universities are not the right context for this mix of theory and practice, so you get a massive dose of theory then thrown off the diving board.
English

@ChristyATucker Yes, I'll look into it. I still think it's bad that they don't communicate this change transparently so that you can make a decision before it kicks in.
English

@MirjamN There used to be a less expensive "no ads" version for around $30/year. That's what I used until I upgraded to self-hosted. But the lowest paid plan isn't terribly expensive. It's probably cheaper than shared hosting and doing it on your own.
English

Wow, @WordPress, since when are the ads so prominent in a free WordPress version? That is pretty horrible. What a 'subtle' way to push customers towards your paid model. Ugh.
English

@MirjamN @P_A_Kirschner They don't do a 1 year post-grad course for secondary teaching at a University?
English

@DonaldClark @P_A_Kirschner This really depends on the country, @DonaldClark. For example, in the Netherlands one of the biggest challenges is that teachers are not taught didactics properly. They do a lot of practical stuff yet a lot of it is fluffy and not focused on evidence-informed teaching.
English

@MirjamN @P_A_Kirschner When teacher training shifted into Universities it became too theoretical and the supported apprenticeship model died. I've seen teachers in tears when thrown in at deep end. Get them into support positions in classrooms from day 1. Put teacher training into the vocational system
English

@britz @WordPress Money as an excuse for treating your customers in a lousy way. @WordPress didn't communicate any of this is a transparent manner. It just happened.

I think it’s healthy to discuss and debate if there are any meaningful differences between #InstructionalDesign and #LearningExperienceDesign. After all, we’re all trying to figure this crap out together as an industry.

@criticallearner Or why the dirty clothes are on the floor right next to the laundry basket.

"True art generates meaning from *unexpected* connections — the exact opposite of how generative transformers and reinforcement learning works." I think the same can be said for learning. It's not about content, but thinking, ideas, and making meaning! thisisyouth.medium.com/chatgpt-wont-k…

A reblog this time! We would like to share an article by @kkapp. Recently, he posted an evidence-informed article on too much interactivity in eLearning. Yes, that's a thing!

So: does listening to #music improve #studying?
@DTWillingham -- who knows a thing or two about research into learning -- has a quick video to answer this question.
As always with Dr. Willingham, it's pithy, easy to understand, clear, and helpful.

@talktoBOI @bankofireland I have the numbers, thank you. I have been sent back and forth between customer service and fraud 5 times now. Then a lovely lady was trying to help and after 20 mins of talking to her, I got disconnected and now I have to start all over again. DREADFUL menus and service.

@MirjamN @bankofireland Hi there. Sorry to hear this. Please contact our colleagues in the security team on 1800946764 from ROI or 00353567757007 if calling from abroad. You can also email fpucardsecurity@boi.com and the team are available 24/7. Thanks, Declan
English

@bankofireland this is NOT acceptable. I need to report fraud and have already been waiting for 20 mins! I keep being sent from one support line to the next and then to some kind of Vodafone voice mail box. Isn't it kind of URGENT if you need to report fraud?
