On August 6, 1965, the Voting Rights Act was signed into law as my father looked on. It was not a gift. It was the result of sacrifice, courage, organizing, and nonviolent struggle. I believe my father would be deeply troubled by the ongoing efforts to weaken voting rights and make fair representation harder to secure. But I also believe he would not want us to surrender to frustration or despair. We have work to do. A high school volleyball team noticed their biggest fan, the school janitor, was always cheering loudly at their games, then waiting alone for free rides home at 1 a.m. So the team came together, raised $9,000, bought him a car, and surprised him with it in front of the entire school. Proof that kindness and humanity are still very much alive. ❤️

Mindset Trick: you’re gonna be fine and even if you’re not gonna be fine, isn’t it better to just exist thinking you’re gonna be until it’s actually not fine? Then, when it’s not fine, you handle it. There’s no sense in ruining the right now.
