@Thomson_Teaches @thesubpod I think this resource has the potential to be a stimulus for discussion. As it integrates a few different aspects of production and consumerism it could be used with #DeBonos 6 Thinking Hats - a great way to integrate multiple perspectives

@MissHubbardAU @thesubpod As a visual learner I love the multimodality! The resource would be great for St.3 but could also be repurposed by T's to make it appropriate for a younger audience. I would link this resource to my #PBLGarden when S are exploring the factors that affect the food cycle.

@MissSha55479033 A great share! You could even adapt this example to make an assessment where students film their own guide of how to correctly complete an exercise, connect it to a QR code and submit it for marking.. It's amazing what students can do in a technology world!

@MissSha55479033 What a fun way to encourage a positive and growth mindset. You could incorporate a drama or dance lesson around this activity. Students could use the phrases from this activity and then demonstrate what that might look like to reinforce a growth mindset!

Growth mindsets improve our overall #resilience. This sort of attitude can encourage those around us to be #stronger when taking on challenges. Here's an activity to help students engage in growth mindsets whilst being out in the fresh air #uonteach #educ4750

@MissSha55479033 A simple but effective exploration could be for students to create a meal or analyse a favourite recipe and compare it to the chart... You could effectively link in a numeracy perspective here with percentages...

#HealthyEating contributes to our overall health and wellbeing. Here is The Australian Healthy Eating Guide. What ways might you get students to think about if they are making healthy decisions and how might you implement this guide in classroom learning? #uonteach #educ4750

@Thomson_Teaches What a great idea... similar to a self watering pot but on a larger scale. This could be an interesting STEM project for students to encourage them to think about materials and their purposes with the various layers needed for this!

@MissHubbardAU I believe it also means finding the most valuable resources to effectively increase sustainability. There are many great sustainability options; have you heard of #Wickingboxes? This is one example of a planter box that helps reduce water wastage.

Whilst a community garden is a great link to #SDG12, the challenge is to rethink it & build the project around an innovative change - to me this means reimagining a garden space to be 100% no waste & constantly giving back to it's community... What does it mean to you? #Educ4750

@Thomson_Teaches Absolutely, it has a progressive flow and would support students in a self paced journey. As a teacher/student collaborative activity, this resource could even be used to create a rubric for their self directed learning...

@MissHubbardAU Yes, excellent idea! I didn't consider it before, however it would be an excellent to use as a scaffold in encouraging self-regulated learning & establishing S responsibility of the project.

While a little dated, this resource is fantastic for planning a school garden. It simplistically provides relevant information about the skills, resources & job allocations needed as well as the value of the #PBL for S and the broader community. #EDUC4750 fao.org/3/a0218e/A0218…

@Thomson_Teaches This sounds like a worthwhile read for anyone looking at a garden based project for #EDUC4750, could you share a link to this resource so we can check it out? 😊

Resource alert! (Mansilla & Jackson, 2011) From checklists to lived-examples, this resource is excellent for educating for global competence. My favourite example engaged students in growing vegetables for their local foodbank and addressing #SDG12. #UoNTeach #Educ4750

A fantastic visual for younger learners about the cycle of #composting. I will be creating a school compost system for my #SDG12 project. Have you seen school composting in action? In what ways could we promote a school wide uptake of this initiative? #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

@chelsseck @Charlot30046473 I absolutely agree... I made a post about the potential for a community compost facility (similar idea to a community garden) that could give back to the local farmers, which I think could be successful initiative as well...

@aiden_dennis @chelsseck A fantastic resource particularly for engaging the younger students. I think composting could be a simple & efficient initiative to implement in a school... I'd love to see a class composting challenge or a replacement of some school bins with composts to encourage contribution.

@chelsseck That is a fantastic visual. It is scary how it all adds up food wastage. Promoting sustainable practices in schools and schools leading by example could help reduce the statistics. War on Waste has a great video of a High School tackling their food waste!

@haleymlambert A fantastic idea! I think students would really engage with this & enjoy the fact that they collected the rubbish. Each student would be individually challenged creatively as they would all have slightly different materials! Would love to see this in action!

Love this idea for a purposeful use for plastic waste. Students will love designing and implementing these garden beds #sustainability #collaboration #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

Check out this awesome garden bed! This would be a great #STEAM activity to get the students thinking about #upcycling in their school. What a great addition to a school or community #garden. #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach What other STEAM activities are you doing in your garden space?

@Oliviacowieuon1 In my opinion, a community space would encourage locals to sustainably dispose of their food waste, especially if they were able to collect the compost for their home gardens - or even if it supported local farmers. Definitely something to think about...

@Oliviacowieuon1 I would love to see a community garden/compost in Maitland! Especially when many of the local estates have limited backyards & garden space due to block size. I know a deterring factor for composting is smell & a home compost would be close to the house in our community.

@sebastiancosen4 @thesubpod Thanks for sharing! I had never heard of this program before. It looks like a wonderful community program that unfortunately is unknown in my own town. Students could write persuasive text pamphlets to share with the community to spread awareness. #myMaitland

@thesubpod @Oliviacowieuon1 Thanks for reaching out! I downloaded The Subpod for schools info pack. A fantastic resource that is student friendly. For anyone looking for a numeracy link here it is! The resource is packed with many maths concepts including data, ratio, multiplication, percentages, and more!

@Oliviacowieuon1 I've been investigating different school contexts & discovering the existing ways they connect with the garden. Many schools are growing, caring & tasting. But there seems to be missing link in the growing cycle- reusing and repurposing food. Composting could complete the cycle!

@MissHubbardAU You are definitely right @MissHubbardAU. There is further opportunity to foster students knowledge and understanding of these gardens, and most importantly, inspire a connection beyond the school grounds to further students sustainability practices.

@MikaylaFYoung An important inquiry. There is a great visual on their website that details the process and cyclic nature of the machine! It looks like any animal manure or food waste can effectively be a part of the process. Follow this link to see how it all works... homebiogas.com/How_It_Works

@Brookejarvie02 @MikaylaFYoung @missmuch3 @Miss_Jess_H Quality, authentic texts are a fundamental in the classroom. Thank you for sharing your favourites, I certainly will read up & try to find some relevant themes for my unit. I also found 'COMPOST STEW' which is so fun links to food wastage!

@MissE_Educ @_MissONeill_ @Miss_Jess_H These are some great initiatives, all of which the S's could work to implement in the school community! My S's will design a compost bin as their project... each of these ideas can be used during the evaluative stage of what goes into the compost!

@MissHubbardAU I have posted a guide on my account that outlines what produce is in season and when it should be planted and harvested. This could be a great way to encourage students to eat, and plant if there is a school garden, seasonal produce to limit harvesting waste.

#SDG12 Each year, a 1/3 of all food produced ends up rotting in the bins or spoiling due to poor transportation & harvesting practices. Educating students to grow their own produce or buying local can help reduce this #uonteach #Educ4750 What classroom experiences could aid this?
