@SaraAnn01479223 @teachwithmaisey @SaraAnn01479223, this sounds like a great way to use podcasts! Students will be able to reflect on their learning and communicate their opinions as they work towards action in their community. Thank you for teaching social justice in your classroom.

@teachwithmaisey Yes definitely! I’m looking into getting my students to create a fortnightly podcast to raise public awareness about past and present issues sounding human rights and social justice. This will also give students an opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns for the future.

Did you know there are over 500 000 podcasts available to us? The Young Changemakers Podcast is one which shares stories of young people working to create lasting change! What other podcasts do you know that encourages students to establish a growth mindset? #sdg16 #Educ4750

@miss_barnes11 What excursion program are you considering at Summerhill Waste Management Centre? Sounds like a great community asset to use for your unit.

@MissHubbardAU I am actually going to do sculpture art with my stage 3 students using Washed Ashore art as inspiration. We will create artworks with the pollution we collect at the beach. washedashore.org

@haleymlambert I love the creative aspect that comes into a project like this. I think this design could inspire some amazing creations within the school environment. What other projects would you like to see the S's creating with plastic bottles or plastic waste as their construction material?

Love this idea for a purposeful use for plastic waste. Students will love designing and implementing these garden beds #sustainability #collaboration #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach

Check out this awesome garden bed! This would be a great #STEAM activity to get the students thinking about #upcycling in their school. What a great addition to a school or community #garden. #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach What other STEAM activities are you doing in your garden space?

@EmilyMo50387664 They're a great idea. Larger bottles can accommodate classroom resources from art supplies to dice games.

Something my class has been working on during our Clean up our Water unit is these recyclable pencil cases. These are a good, easy way to get students to start thinking about recycling plastic bottles, as well as incorporating creative arts #UoNTeach #Educ4750 #SDG14

@EmilyMo50387664 @Take3fortheSea Your students can clean the beach up! Why don't you have a guest speaker from Take3fortheSea talk to your class about the importance of community action. Service learning is fantastic for developing civic duty and responsibility.

@miss_barnes11 Maybe your school can begin a recycling initiative where they collect cans from the school community to redeem at a Return and Earn location. The money can be used to fund other green initiatives in the school.

What a powerful statement and absolutely true.Humans cant change the past but the future is ours to mould, lets teach the next generation to look after Mother Earth. How do you address recycling in your home or workplace? I would love to hear your ideas #uonteach #EDUC4750 #SDG12

@miss_barnes11 Students are eager to adopt actions that will help the planet overcome plastic pollution. A great real-world lesson would be analysing lunchbox images to determine how much waste is hypothetically being polluted. This can lead to personal reflection.

If your looking for a quality text to address #SDG12 check out What a waste by Jess French in my opinion it is a great resource. It can be adapted for various stages. #UONTEACH #EDUC4750

This article is eye opening. The negative effect humans are having on our earth needs to stop. Remember everyone of us has a chance to make a change for better. Its all about making positive choices and educating others. #TeachUon #EDUC4750
Plastic Pollutes@PlasticPollutes

"The impact of plastics on vulnerable populations goes well beyond inefficient waste management systems. It starts with issues related to oil extraction, through toxic environments & greenhouse gas emissions, & it even impacts water distribution policies” ow.ly/qBmb50EetrF

@LandersCurtis While going #plasticfree is a great idea for your school, I'd be careful implementing this action as a 'rule.' It's a sure-fire way to get your school community off side. We should always be very mindful of social justice and the burden and stigma of 'rules.' Frame it positively!

@haleymlambert My students will be cleaning up the beaches and shorelines in our local area. Maybe I could go beyond this and implement rules that make children / families more aware of the packaging they use for their lunch boxes?

@LandersCurtis Can also be used as a collaborative learning tool where each member in the group looks at an article or website using a different hat and then reports back to the group.

De Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats is a tool that will help students think about #plasticpollution and #SDG14 in a more effective way. E.g. Ss could use the white hat to research some facts about our oceans, or the green hat to create solutions for these problems. #UoNTeach #Educ4750

Plastic on our food has actually been proven to be a sociological problem, I recommend reading up on how the only effective way to reduce plastic consumption is through community action. #SDG12 #UONTeach #Educ4750

@SaraAnn01479223 @pipcleaves How do you plan to promote student agency in school? I love the idea of having a student lead government. I have also seen in practice cultural groups where students make decisions about how to promote their culture in their school.

Love your thinking @pipcleaves Student Voice vs Student Agency is something we need to be mindful of as educators to ensure learning is relevant and student centred. As an educator I see Student Agency as a must when creating community based units!#sdg16PeaceandJustice #uonteach

Formative assessment tracks learning goals and enables constant feedback to students about their learning. How are you planning to assess for learning in your unit of work? #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #SDG14
