She flew combat missions over Iraq and later performed breathtaking aerobatics over American cities. Few people know the trailblazing pilot behind those missions. Nicole Malachowski built one of the most remarkable careers in modern military aviation. She flew the F-15E Strike Eagle, one of the most powerful aircraft in the United States Air Force. During deployments connected to the Iraq War and War in Afghanistan, Malachowski flew 26 combat sorties and accumulated more than 188 combat hours. Her missions included precision strike operations and close air support in extremely dangerous airspace. Earlier in her career she also supported operations over the Balkans during Operation Deliberate Forge. Her career was only beginning. In 2005, Malachowski broke a historic barrier. She became the first woman selected to fly with the legendary United States Air Force Thunderbirds. Flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon, she performed high speed formation maneuvers just feet away from other jets while thousands watched below. The precision required for Thunderbird flying is extraordinary. Every movement must be perfect. Later in her career she commanded an F 15E squadron and served as a White House Fellow, advising national leaders. Through every achievement, Malachowski remained focused on one simple mission. @infantrydort My complaint is why the Army and Marines have to rely on the Air Force to fly A-10's. The Air Force loves fast, sleek planes flying 60,000' and firing missiles and to them Warthogs are "yucky".

Anyone who claims the A10 needs to be retired obviously hasn't been in a ground firefight and needed them. There are few things more depressing than a gun run from any other platform. Don't @ me about obsolescence. Everything is "obsolete" if conditions aren't set.
