I am absolutely sickened by the senseless killing of 76-year-old Ross Falzone, who was pushed down the stairs of an NYC subway station on Thursday. The suspect had been picked up by officers earlier that day on a separate matter and taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he underwent a psychiatric evaluation. He was later released, and hours later, shoved Mr. Falzone to his death. Every New Yorker, whether they will admit it or not, has at some point likely encountered erratic, unstable, and clearly unwell individuals, like the suspect in this case. Being in my 30s now, I find that I appreciate every single day on this earth more than I did in my younger years. Life is truly so fragile. I struggle to understand why these individuals are often given multiple chances before they ultimately inflict harm on innocent people. Why? We are only given one chance at life. My heart goes out to Mr. Falzone and his family.
