Visualizing standing sound waves with dry ice. Finished this little project just in time. My students start longitudinal standing waves on Monday! #iteachphysics

@EmilyRCWilson Read your Odyssey last month and just started reading book 6 of your Iliad now and they’ve been great. And now you’re coming to Cincy! Just bought my ticket. Looking forward to hearing your talk!

Happy Father’s Day to fathers everywhere! It is also Bloomsday, a day to celebrate James Joyce and read his books, especially Ulysses. As a Joyce newbie I’m not quite ready to tackle Ulysses, so I’m reading Dubliners.😊 #Bloomsday

@kilroi22 Saw it with naked eyes only, and I wondered if that red speck we saw at the bottom was a prominence. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Baily's Beads complete with an amazing prominence and thin clouds in this image taken at the end of today's totality. Thrilled I was able to share this eclipser with members of my family that had not witnessed one. It had the best chromosphere of the 4 I have observed.

We have a good chance to see totality in 30 min! Need the holes in the clouds to cooperate.

My parents’ house was smack in the middle of the path of the totality, so it was nice to share the spectacle with them. The whole thing was amazing! And according to my star finder app (Star Walk) there were so many planets “close” to the Sun at the same time. Screenshot:

Weather permitting, the eclipse will be an amazing event! But it’s not worth risking your vision with fake eclipse glasses. Be safe and enjoy the spectacle! eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/vie…

Balanced Torque lab! one of my favorites to do with the Ss. I think I found a budget set up that I'm happy with. Strings & Binder Clips for the fulcrum. Ss can perform the lab standing and at any location #iteachphysics

A few weeks ago an elevated PSA led to an MRI. Two areas of concern were indicated. Last week I went in for a fusion biopsy. Good news - everything tested as benign. No cancer. Infection followed, but I continued to teach - looking forward to running again, starting easy.

@BarnettDreyfuss I will echo the others. I’ve had a Prusa i3 Mk3 at home for several years and it has been excellent. We have a few of the same model in our school makerspace, and they’ve served us very well. Highly recommend.

For those that have experience with 3D printers and/or maker spaces, what's a solid starter 3D printer for a high school classroom? #iteachscience

@cossettej Nice. For a while I’ve had an idea rolling around in my mind for engaging students with different methods of levitation. So far I’ve got the floating light bulb, an acoustic levitator, and a small blower for Bernoulli effect. Maybe an opening day engagement activity….

Finally finished putting together the “book nook” kit my daughter gave me for Christmas. Tons of fun! Added a few touches to give it a Harry Potter theme.

Acoustic levitation is one of those science demonstrations that feels like magic when you see it in real life. This array of 72 mini speakers can suspend several styrofoam balls in midair using sound! 😮

@mind_booster True. I was even recalling that this translation is not particularly good. Not sure why I didn’t make the connection. 😜 Anyway started Jekyll/Hyde then probably this….

@Misterfizzx Verne doesn't really count for #victober, seeing it isn't English literature... but you have only good choices other than that! 😉

We all have a lot to do for our physical spaces and planning before school starts. I sometimes forget to reset something until I need it and realize I forgot. What's the thing you do first and foremost to feel "ready"? 🧪🎢 #iteachphysics

@MonicaKonrath I think a while back @hosey_dan shared an Excel file that lets you set parameters to generate graphs. Lots of flexibility. Still quantitative, but doesn’t require a full data set.

Just started reading The Count of Monte Cristo on a daily (almost) schedule that matches its publication as a serial. Imagining the Paris cafes in 1844 buzzing with speculation about the cliffhanger of the latest installment of the story in the newspaper.

@mcsorley_math Built this several years ago. Flow continues as long as difference is maintained, energy release, energy input requirement to establish and maintain difference, etc. Works well enough for me, but every analogy has limits and risks for misconceptions.

Have any #Physics or #Engineering teachers built a device to demonstrate the hydraulic analogy for electrical circuits? I have only seen diagrams and want to know if they actually work! xkcd.com/2571/
