@MrJoeMilliano Designed a lab in which circling mass was unknown but Ss could measure length and collect tension values for varying known frequencies from metronome online. Plotting T vs f^2 yields line related to mass. All theoretical masses were less by 20% to experimental...
@PhilipMRussell1 I was looking for a lab that had students measure the mag. force! What did you use for the magnet holder? Is that a special kind of wire? What gauge?
Toilet Paper Lab! It'll be a staple from now on. I loved it. Always interesting to see how a lab challenges Ss differently than practice problems #iteachphysics
#iteachphysics ! has anyone done the toilet paper drop/unrolling activity for mechanics? if so can you give me some tips? How much scaffolding was given? How much time do you give? TY!
@swampphysics I honestly never fully grasped(!) why it was fairly trivial for me and so impossible for most students. But we kinda lost track of the exact quantitative principles amid all the laughter.
Balanced Torque lab! one of my favorites to do with the Ss. I think I found a budget set up that I'm happy with. Strings & Binder Clips for the fulcrum. Ss can perform the lab standing and at any location #iteachphysics
@swampphysics My Ss used to be so amazed that they could find center of mass by sliding their fingers toward each other under the meter stick. Then, of course, they started trying it out with masses hanging from it.
@Misterfizzx it cuts down on me telling them to use the metric side. every time I hear the Ss remind each other that they're using the wrong side during labs it's a good reminder that's one less time that I'll ever have to remind them
