@gothoperas These examples, plus that scene of 14 comforting Donna in WBY in in way 10 could never. For David playing the Doctor as he sees fit is a natural continuation of Ten and Russell making a joke about his writing ability doesn't change the fact that they are objectively different.

@sapphicjackrose The Master has committed genocide, the Doctor is always gonna forgive him. Twelve did this too with Missy. As for the dismissal of her race in TSC, that's a dodgy moment, 100%. But it's not a defining moment. Like Twelve glossing over Bonnie's oppression in TZI.

@sapphicjackrose Racism was taken seriously, you mentioned the Blood two parter. The Doctor offering Joan a spot aboard the TARDIS was never about race or the Doctor being morally good, it was selfish, in text. Freedonia is just a generic fictional name for a country in fiction, non issue.

Ruffalo's performance is quite different than Norton's, therefore the character is different but the narrative pretend he's not. But regardless that was more of a visual representation of my larger point. What I said still stands.

Every day I think about how RTD wrote the tenth doctor to make a joke about being “more skinny” than nine in the extended regeneration scene (Eccleston was anorexic during Doctor who). Like it’s so comically evil it’s sounds like I’m making it up but I’m not
