@shaneparrish There are some 130mln books in the world. In a life time, an avid reader can expect to read 1 book/week. Over a 60 year period, one can be expected to read some 3100 books. That is 0.0024% of all books outstanding. What *not to read* is more important. #alwaysinvert

Finally stayed at an Atour hotel, the simple business lodging everyone raves about. I don’t know how I could have gotten a smaller room, I can probably jump from the toilet onto the bed lol. This room is about $100 in downtown Beijing. It’s basically a much nicer JI Hotel (the founder used to work there).
The service is great though, more proactive than many high end hotels.

@AngelicaOung @ruima I've stayed at over 20 and the one bad experience was in Beijing
English

@ruima The Atour I stayed at in Beijing was the least nice Atour!
English

@ruima The Light offering is slightly downgraded vs traditional Atour experience - main thing is smaller rooms
English

@MoatlessCapital Oooh I just checked, I think it is? It's the same price as the Atour slightly farther away though. Probably because the location is super good (why I am here).

@sanjeevsanyal Wikipedia was taken over by Chinese, Islamists, and deep state through donations and infiltration. Along with an army of "fact checkers" to edit the narrative as it suits them. India didn't do these things, so Wikipedia will be forever anti-India run by the adversaries above.
English

So, the latest attempt to change my Wikipedia entry..... insterting "revisionist Hindutva history".They will first write some "article" to reference and then change the entry. This way of creating circular referencing is their main tool. I will leave it to the good people here to edit it back.

@HongshenZhu @PolBehavior Even now people from Dongbei still suffer from the stereotype that they're all gang members, or people from Henan tend to steal manhole covers. All you need to look for is the number of security bars on windows of 1990s/2000s buildings as evidence of that period:

English

@PolBehavior The damage spills beyond the laid-off. In high-layoff counties, even people who kept their jobs trust the government less. Privatization boosted GDP but cut spending on education, security & administration — hollowing out the local order. Rust-belt anxiety, Chinese edition.
English

@PolBehavior The most striking result: money doesn't fix it. Laid-off workers who later achieved high incomes — even those who rate themselves top earners in their community — remain just as distrustful. Compensating the losers isn't enough.
