Forums like this exist so people feel included in the democratic process. Providing translation at a public forum isn’t a high bar..it’s the bare minimum. We can’t advocate for our community’s right to be heard while leaving half the room unable to follow the conversation.

Shoutout to @WarriorForWard1 for speaking entirely in Spanish at today’s @dclatinocaucus W1 forum. But NO translation was provided. If we’re fighting for language access, that fight starts in the rooms where we’re standing. Today was a missed opportunity to model real inclusion.

The suspect who struck an MPD officer in a hit-and-run in Southwest DC has been arrested. According to MPD, the suspect was taken into custody by Virginia State Police on the Capital Beltway overnight. The incident occurred at: 📍 MLK Jr Ave & Forrester St SW Police had been searching for a new model white Range Rover with South Carolina temporary tags in connection to the hit-and-run. 🟢 Officials also confirmed the injured officer has since been released from the hospital. The investigation remains ongoing.

@WardOneTroll @BrianneKNadeau For clarity and context: we were asked to help residents apply for StayDC due to high need. Which we did by working directly with tenants, brought DHCD on-site to assist with applications, and partnered with MOCA to provide language access for non-English-speaking neighbors.

During COVID, DHCD was literally cutting checks directly to tenants — not property management. Don’t believe me? Ask @MoisesDelroDC who got the Mayors office involved after the union flagged it to him and Ali Bobak from @BrianneKNadeau ‘s office.
