Think of me as public service… but with better punchlines. I troll with purpose. If it stings, it’s probably true. #Ward1Troller

I was in the room when @kenyanmcduffie voted on the 2024 PLA bill. It was as if he'd never heard of a PLA. He couldn't even understand the concept let alone decide if he was for or against it. He'll be so wrapped around The ABC's finger you won't know which is which.
Ryan@Rybread_26

Let’s be clear about who @KenyanMcDuffie is "proud" to stand with. @ABCMW_News isn't just a business group; they're the lead lobby fighting to keep union wages out of DC and kill Project Labor Agreements. A Mayor endorsed by ABC is a Mayor for the bosses, not the workers. 🧵

@SmithSteiner Republican donations don’t decide Home Rule. Congress does. Do you think the labor unions backing JLG have never taken a single Republican dollar? 🤣 An endorsement from a neighboring senator who can advocate at the federal level (and HAS) carries far more weight right now.

McDuffie is taking campaign donations from Republicans, and his endorsement is from MD Senator Alsobrooks. Which has the biggest impact now on DC’s Home Rule?
Ward One Troller@WardOneTroll

@jrhp2016 @SmithSteiner @BarrasReport On top of that, with the ongoing threat of federal intervention, it only makes sense to have strong support from senators in neighboring jurisdictions, especially our closest neighbor.

@SmithSteiner @BarrasReport I don’t think most of the stuff you cite registered with most people. And I like Alsobrooks a lot and trust her judgment.

Bowser is calling in favors! Don’t believe the hype! We all seen McDuffie unhinged, and disrespectful behavior at Matthew Memorial Church this past Saturday. We all seen how McDuffie did not attend the Ward5 Dems forum of undecided voters. But went to another forum to speak that he was not invited. When McDuffie’s supporters approached him about his lack of visibility, he said he had 3 months before election. They had to lit a fire to get him to be more visible. This is all recent!

@AlexKomaDC It's amazing how Alex Koma is quoting a Twitter account from a fake org that was created months ago to support a single candidate. Almost as if there is a secret Signal chat where this is all coordinated.

@AlexKomaDC You better hope she wins. Because if she doesn’t, you’re going to be remembered as the journalist who compromised his integrity to back her campaign. I love our local reporters, but the level of bias in your “reporting” runs counter to what journalism is supposed to stand for.

I touched on these critiques of McDuffie in my story today: namely, he's taken a ton of meetings with/money from lobbyists (and PSC members) and has a lot of former staff at the utilities. He says JLG hasn't done much on the issue, but her argument is: he has and it's been bad.

You call yourself running for office in my city and this is how you act? This is how you talk to a child trying to get involved and do right? THIS MUST BE EXPOSED!! We have to become a moral compass for our City's elected officials. She's an educator and works with kids!! She would never be welcome at my school!!! I'm livid!! How dare you cuss and speak to a child like this!!! And this is not the first time she's behaved in a public setting like this!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! 💯 💯 💯 #TogetherDCCan

@ScottGoldstein @freedcproject_ Again, fair. A lot of those rapid sign-ups were driven by fear of federal intervention, not necessarily support for JLG. Momentum against Trump isn’t the same as a broad, citywide coalition for a candidate.

Very hard to imagine there will be any endorsement more impactful this yr than @freedcproject_. Because it’s not just a “progressive group”, it’s THE group that has led the resistance to Trump’s attacks on DC. The have enormous trust plus enormous email list & volunteer network. @maustermuhle @tomsherwood @SamPKCollins @jennygathright

@ScottGoldstein @freedcproject_ Fair. But 1,000 votes in a progressive bubble isn’t the same as building a coalition of 70,000 votes (the figure JLG said she’s aiming for) in an RCV election. Different scale, different electorate, different game.

@WardOneTroll @freedcproject_ Right…. When the need for them arose and thousands and thousands of residents joined nearly immediately, hundreds of orientations and trainings complete and organization in all 8 wards in one of the most impressive grassroots organizing feats in recent memory.

The fighting over utility bills has continued from this weekend, with Sierra Club/the unions backing JLG attacking McDuffie's record on the issue. He's firing back, picking up on his counter from the Free DC forum, saying she hasn't done enough on the issue either:

I want to address claims being made about my time on the NoMa BID board and homeless encampment clearings. I served on the board around 2010-2011. The encampment clearings in the K, L, and M Street underpasses happened between 2018 and 2021. I was not on the board. I was not involved. This isn't a matter of opinion. A peer-reviewed study from American University that specifically documents the history of encampments in the NoMa underpasses found that in 2009, there were no tents set up in the underpasses. By December 2015 — four years after I left — eight people were living there. The encampments grew to 25 tents by 2018 and 85 by January 2020. The hostile architecture, the open letter lobbying for "pedestrian safe-passage zones," the complaint campaigns to the Bowser administration — all of that happened between 2018 and 2021. The K Street underpass was cleared in January 2020. The L and M Street underpasses were cleared in October 2021, when a bulldozer operator hit a resident still inside his tent. The DC government carried out every one of those clearings. I had no role in any of it. What I did help build in NoMa was 1.6 million square feet of mixed-use development, including affordable housing. If you're angry about what happened to unhoused residents in those underpasses, I share that anger. The question worth asking is: who held power in DC government when those clearings happened, and what did they do to stop it? That's the accountability conversation this city needs to have.

I applaud @freedcproject_ for the immense work they put into this event and coordinating it with all the candidates. DC residents deserved a serious conversation last night. They got political theater from two candidates more interested in scoring points on each other than speaking substantively to that audience. We should expect more.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

The entire debate was made more challenging by the fact that 85% of the audience was made up of campaign volunteers or people who had already made up their minds who they're voting for. Both sides hooted and hollered whenever their candidate spoke; it was a pep rally.

@MissKelsye Now that’s something I agree with. Even though First Source requires projects with $300k+ in government assistance to hire DC residents for 51% of new jobs, loopholes often let developers get around it and oversight from DOES has been minimal.
