@dontdelay David, just for clarity - are you saying that somebody who has FS and SP pension income in excess of £100,000 doesn't lose their personal allowance?

Such is the value of not having to pay National Insurance in retirement (and not losing your personal allowance if you have income over £100,000) That an employee needs a salary of £110,550 To receive the same amount of net income as someone with pension income of £100,000

The better our clients' equity investments do, the more bonds they buy. Simply as an outcome of regular rebalancing.

@dontdelay Well done, your son, and the steak looks great. Being devil's advocate, what would you have done if he tried really hard but did poorly in his SATs?

England has perfected the art of not playing second-half rugby. Time for Borthwick to go. We're getting worse.

Should I swap some #PHNX for #LGEN now that Phoenix has outperformed and the dividend yields are about the same at 9%?

Warren Buffett: World’s richest index-hugger (but without the big fees) 😜 ‘Over 21 years, the return performance of the S&P and Berkshire are all but identical. On an annual basis, their performance is five basis points apart (the S&P has the meaninglessly tiny advantage). Yes, if you go back further, Berkshire crushes the index, but it is hard to see the relevance of that today, given how much the company has changed. Twenty years is plenty of time to assess an investment strategy.’ ft.com/content/021d89…

The historical divide between home and office has changed and our new work environment reflects that. A place where the team can do focussed work, meet clients in relaxed rooms, grab a coffee together on the terrace or hit the gym for a workout. And maybe go for a drink on Thursday evening (it’s the new Friday!). Companies need to rethink the space they operate from and create an environment that the team love to come to, collaborate and do their best work. I love our new central London office space -we move in June, come visit us!

We’re barely into the new tax year, and, I’ve already encountered my first example of how this poorly thought-through pensions legislation can negatively affect a client’s genuine life plan. 🤦‍♂️

Here’s an awful truth: Whatever the problem is in your business, it’s your fault. Here’s the thing. If you’re the owner of a business you have to be growing and developing you first and foremost. Do you agree?

@TheSecretAcct As you say, there is no magic solution. As always, best = dull and boring. People love to complicate the simple to show how clever they are. An IQ of 50 is plenty to be a great investor.

@brettdavidson No. Great new clients are the best part of the business IMO. Also most value added in those first 1-3 years.

Saying ‘no’ to new business is a total fantasy. Sure, you can say no to smaller leads and increase your minimums, but when that next perfect, ideal client arrives, are you really going to say ‘no’? Of course not you’re not. Are you?!
