In 2003, a German film crew followed a nomadic family in Mongolia's Gobi Desert. The film, The Story of the Weeping Camel, was nominated for an Oscar. A mother camel had rejected her newborn after a brutal two-day labour. Without her milk, the calf would die. The family knew one option. They sent their two young sons on a journey across the desert to find a musician who could perform a ritual called Hoos, a chanting ceremony passed down for centuries specifically for this moment. The musician came. The ritual was performed. The mother camel wept real tears and turned to her calf for the first time. The film crew had gone to document a way of life. They had no idea they would capture that. UNESCO added the Hoos ritual to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2015, alongside flamenco, the Mediterranean diet, and the art of Neapolitan pizza making.

The US bombed a primary school in Iran, killing 168 girls. Why is nobody talking about this anymore? These abominable war crimes should not be forgotten — and nor should the lives, hopes and dreams of human beings who were slaughtered with impunity.

Interesting that the guy Platt they had on CNN to give the Jewish anti-Piker perspective is a guy who spent today defending Ben-Gvir’s racist apartheid ‘kill only Palestinian convicts’ law, and in this clip suggests Piker is antisemitic for saying Israel pulled the US into this war - which is what multiple top mainstream Senate Democrats - Gallego, Murphy, Schatz, etc - have said! Yeah, a real fringe view!

The nazification of Israel is complete. They’re about to mass murder ~10,000 Palestinian hostages, many of them children. Greater Israel is the 4th Reich.
Mondoweiss@Mondoweiss

BREAKING: Israel's Knesset has passed a law to execute Palestinian detainees. Death by hanging. Mandatory sentencing. No pardon. 90 days to carry out. It applies through military courts with a 96% conviction rate. It does not apply to Israelis.

@KyleKulinski No, this claim is not true. It's a hyperbolic inversion of facts, mixing propaganda tropes with outright falsehoods about "nazification," "mass murder of ~10,000 Palestinian hostages," and "Greater Israel as the 4th Reich."-Grok Grok says youre full of shit

About 510,000 people died of AIDS in the U.S. between 1981 and 1996. In the late 1990s, a breakthrough “cocktail” of HIV meds became available. Since then, treatment options have become more abundant and easier to take, and in the United States, HIV-related mortality rates have plunged. But now there’s risk of a backslide. States across the country are considering cuts to a program that covers about a quarter of the roughly 1.2 million people in the U.S. living with HIV. Tens of thousands could soon lose access to medication. The most extreme example is in Florida. Early this month, the state government drastically reduced access to its AIDS Drug Assistance Program, a long-standing federal initiative operated and partly funded by states that provides free or subsidized HIV meds and care. Claiming a $120 million budget shortfall, Florida chopped the annual income-eligibility cutoff for ADAP from about $64,000 (in line with many other states) to about $21,000. Half of the 32,000 Floridians who depend on ADAP would lose coverage. ADAP programs work both to help save lives and to stop the epidemic’s spread: Medically suppressed HIV cannot be transmitted. A recent study calculated that if Congress were to eliminate the act that houses ADAP, new HIV infections across 31 major U.S. cities would rise nearly 50 percent by 2030. Tim Murphy reports on how cuts in ADAP “could see the first rise in HIV incidence in decades”: nymag.visitlink.me/vh9KRx

Worst Boyfriend Ever
Worst Boyfriend Ever@TwinkBukowski·
I went to this yesterday trying to find God but it didn't work. I ingested a gram and a half of shrooms and showed up late, they were walking in circles holding palm leaves, I just filed in pretending to understand. I was so ready to receive God's grace until this thick hapa girl and her friends who I could not help but feel had come from Twitter sat down in the pew in front of me, oh fuck, she was shaped like this O ( ) ( ) wearing a skin tight dark green sweater and navy blue stretchy pants and I could not hear or see a single word of church because all I could think about the entire time was bending this 20% body fat perfect ass dyed brown hair human mannequin over on the bench and ... every time I looked at her she fixed her hair nervously, as if feeling my presence from directly behind. The psilocybin gummies I had bought legally from some other "church" earlier that day were making me sleepy but also manic and obsessed, I could barely make out a word of any story the preacher man said on stage and I couldn't tell which human in that room of >100 was "growing Daniel" all I could see was this girl, she looked back quite a few times and I pretended to be looking past her, through her, I don't get "crazy visuals" on shrooms I just get really obsessed with people. There was another early 20s Asian male beside me who had also pretty-obviously come from Twitter, as evidenced by the fact that he was using Twitter on his phone. I'm sure he was suffering from the same dilemma with respect to this insanely fertile creature directly in front of us standing and sitting and stroking her hair for like an hour straight, surely not receiving a word of church herself. Near the end everyone was getting up to walk in a line to the front and kneel before the stage where the old white man in red-yellow gowns would feed us a flavorless chip of bread or something directly into our mouths which instead of bringing me pleasure just made me thirsty - I returned to my pew and gooned to that girl's body some more probably making her entire group uncomfortable at this point and closed my eyes to indulge in some really heavenly gospel music for a couple minutes, which must have been the highlight of my evening. I went out that night planning to make friends but the gummies made me feel extremely lethargic and antisocial, so instead of flailing around after asking people "um are you here from Twitter" - knowing obviously they were, I just walked around tripping got back in my van equipped my headphones listened to Kanye's new album and drove away. It's a good album, thank God.

It isn’t a very sneaky sneak attack when there’s a breaking news headline about it. Also, this is what you do in negotiations. It’s naive to negotiate without being prepared for the possibility that they might break down… especially when dealing with infamous bad faith negotiators like Iran.

@CantEverDie lol. No it was in 2008 when we elected Barack Obama. Literally our country’s first Black President, but you were more hopeful after a Michigan win in a major political party primary from Bernie? You extrapolated that to some monumental shift or change nationwide? Interesting.

This is so dumb… not colonial but has recruited 700,000 fighters from across Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Pakistan… armed them, trained them, and deployed them as transnational militias outside the authority of their own countries. Effectively hijacked the political, economic, and military decision-making of a neighboring state like Iraq, while simultaneously fueling civil wars in Syria and Yemen that have left millions dead and tens of millions displaced As for not being about radical Islam, article 5 of that same constitution designates the ultimate authority of the regime to be a 9 year old child that went missing a few thousand years ago but expected to return at the end of days, the missing imam. The regime has explicit jihadist goals and don’t let these “it’s actually really complicated” people tell you otherwise

TIL: The second largest Jewish population in the Middle East is in... Iran. There are 15,000 Jews in the Islamic Republic. Tehran itself has a dozen synagogues. Jews are guaranteed religious freedom in Iran under a 1979 fatwa from the Ayatollah Khomeini. Jews also receive a seat in the Majlis (the Iranian parliament) under Article 64 of the revolutionary constitution. Understood correctly, the current conflict in the Middle East is not a religious war between Jews and Muslims but a geopolitical and ideological conflict between the nation-states of Israel and Iran. Iran is an anti-colonial, left-wing, Islamic regime and Israel is a largely secular, colonial, quasi-European ethno-state that also wants to be a gay liberal democracy. The current conflict is a byproduct of the complex geopolitical situation in the region and the legacy of the Cold War. It is not about "radical Islam." This error is, in many cases, a result of commentators mapping the rhetoric of the Global War on Terror onto Iran. That is a mistake. The Islamic Republic is a real state, decisively different in character and purpose from a non-state, radical militant group like Al-Qaeda.

america is one of very few countries that has even tried to build a multiethnic democracy at scale, & the fact that it has a visible, loud, ongoing discourse about racism is actually evidence of relatively low tolerance for it compared to countries where racial hierarchy is just... ambient & unremarked upon. japan (lol very obvious now), korea, much of europe, india's caste system, han chauvinism in china, ethnic dynamics across the gulf states.. most of these societies don't even have the vocabulary for the conversation america tortures itself over daily. america is quite literally is one of the least if not the least racist countries on the planet, & it's not even close.
