I pay ₦7,600 every single month. Not because I’m swimming in money. Not because life is soft. But because I believed it would open doors. Meanwhile, I’m struggling to feed. Bills are staring at me like unpaid debts have emotions. Every naira counts. Every coin has purpose. Yet I still subscribed. I still showed up. I still created. I still pushed. And till today… nothing. No payout. No support. Just vibes and silence. It’s crazy how you can invest in something hoping it’ll lift you up, while you’re quietly drowning behind the scenes. Sometimes I look at that ₦7,600 and think of food it could’ve bought. Electricity it could’ve paid for. Peace of mind it could’ve given me. But instead, I chose belief. And I’m tired of pretending it doesn’t hurt. If you see someone trying online, don’t mock them. You have no idea what they sacrificed to keep showing up….

Remembering how when my Mum left, my Dad still didn't learn to cook or do anything else she'd been doing solo all those years. I quickly taught myself to cook at age 10, using books from the library, as soon as I realised that every meal with my father was going to be a bag of frozen sausage rolls, plain toast, or nothing at all. By 13, I was cooking meals for him too. And that's how male incompetence trains women.

Tyla live Nigeria must do better. I found it laughable when I Heard that my show was canceled in Nigeria. I have graced stages across the world and earned international recognition. My presence in Nigeria should have been seen as an honor to the country, given how much I have elevated its name globally. I was genuinely pleased when the event was cancelled. I have a show in the USA tomorrow — I don't need Nigeria. The truth is, performing at home was meant to uplift you. I almost declined before this happened, but I accepted out of solidarity as an African. I know the love isn’t mutual. And honestly, I’m unbothered.

One of the most depressing and enlightening experiences in my entire life was visiting my dad every other day to take care of my dog during my gap year, and realizing over time that my mom totally gaslit me over him. Yeah, he struggled a lot, was an alcoholic for a long time (the sad kind, not the abusive kind, he was always kind to me and my brother), and he had a hard time, but he was also FUCKED over by my mom. He went to one of the nicest high schools in the nation, graduated 3rd in the school. I’m named after his best friend, who was valedictorian and immediately went to Stanford on a full ride scholarship. My dad could have had that, instead he accidentally got my mom pregnant and took responsibility every step of the way. Even when she divorced him and got custody, he stayed in our shitty little hometown that he hated and worked at a bar for 20 years, all so he could take responsibility for me and my brother and raise us as much as he could. I love my Dad so much.
