This is a ridiculous take, and it ignores a lot of historical context.
First, slavery was not unique to the United States. Slavery has existed across civilizations, empires, regions, and continents for thousands of years. That does not excuse American slavery, but it does mean the issue should be discussed honestly and in context. The transatlantic slave trade was horrific, but even within that history, the majority of enslaved Africans taken to the Americas were sent to the Caribbean and South America, not what became the United States. Smithsonian notes that the majority went to the Caribbean and South America, while at least 388,000 were brought to the United States before the U.S. banned slave importation in 1808. Slave Voyages also states that the United States absorbed about 5% of enslaved Africans arriving in the Americas.
Second, the United States today is one of the most diverse, tolerant, and inclusive major countries in the world. It is not perfect, and no serious person would claim it has no racism, but America is one of the few major nations where people from nearly every race, religion, ethnicity, and background can realistically become “American.” According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. is about 57.5% non-Hispanic white, 20% Hispanic or Latino, 13.7% Black, 6.7% Asian, and 14.1% foreign-born. Pew also found that three-quarters of U.S. adults view racial and ethnic diversity as a good thing for the country.
People often point to Nordic countries as examples of tolerance, and in many ways they do rank highly on social trust and quality-of-life measures. But it is also fair to point out that those countries have historically been far more ethnically and culturally homogeneous than the United States. Sweden is an exception among Nordic countries, with about 20.3% of its population foreign-born in 2023, but Finland was only 8.6% foreign-born, Denmark reported immigrants and descendants at about 16% of the population in 2024, and Norway’s immigrants and their children were about 21% of the population. That is not an insult to those countries; it just means comparing tolerance in a relatively smaller, more culturally cohesive society to tolerance in a massive, multiracial, multiethnic country like the United States is not always apples to apples. The United States is almost half non white.
The loud racists in America get attention, but they are not representative of the country as a whole. Every country has racism, xenophobia, tribalism, and ethnic prejudice. The difference is that America’s problems are often more visible because America is more diverse, more politically open, and more willing to argue publicly about its own flaws. That visibility should not be mistaken for America being uniquely racist.
So yes, America has an ugly history with slavery and racism. But pretending that slavery was uniquely American, or that America today is one of the least tolerant countries in the world, is historically and factually wrong. America is flawed, but it is also one of the most diverse and inclusive major societies ever built and any suggestion to the contrary is simply ignorant to the facts.

@AbundantCampus@Joseph_Inyang If that’s your takeaway from the film then I feel sorry for you. What it shows is that it doesn’t matter what you throw at the black American. No matter what, he will prevail. You also somehow don’t realize that this was the reality of the past.
@Joseph_Inyang This is a stupid movie, simply put, reverse psychology. Meaning if you are black you must suffer to get where others got with easy, just cos of the color of your sink, fuck them, I ain't doing that. The likes of me have come sense to understand that the movie is a total bullshit!
Yes, the key word here is “interactive” screen time, meaning iPads and things like that from what I gather. Having the screen a foot from your face and mindlessly tapping the screen does the child no good. There is no beneficial stimulation like you would get with video games, for which there are numerous studies showing that playing strategy video games and such has a positive and lasting impact on brain development.
Yeah it’s a bit different though
I’m not convinced that it’s purely “screen time” that’s doing the damage
It’s screen time on tablets/mobiles which by design, have apps hyper fuelling instant gratification which is completely shite for brain development
REAL gaming is good for brain development
But instant gratification games and videos are terrible
This MRI study on young kids just exposed something terrifying:
They scanned the brains of 60 children aged 3–5 — including 5-year-old Rose — and found interactive screen time is causing measurable loss of white matter in their developing brains. Even just 2 hours a day is linked to impaired neural connectivity, language, and literacy development.
Professor Mike Nagel (neuroscientist and father) said his first reaction was simply: “Wow… I was not anticipating seeing anything like that.”
We’re physically changing children’s brains before they even start school — and the damage is visible on scans.
This one actually unsettled me. I’ve always suspected too much screen time was bad, but seeing real white matter loss in toddlers hits different.
Parents of little ones — has this kind of research changed how much screen time you allow?
Age and injury shouldn’t be the main concern here. The bigger picture is that he’s a proven talent who can fill a role for the next 3 to 5 years. Realistically, there’s a good chance we trade him for value after 3 years anyway.
This is a short-term investment with immediate value, and potentially long-term value depending on what we get back for him later. You can’t look at draft picks at face value without zooming out and considering the full picture.
So Raiders traded out of 36
DL McDonald
Passed on:
Boston (I’m fine with)
DL Miller
LB Rodriguez (would have been cool not huge need)
DL Hunter
For SAF Stukes
First off, Mendoza isn’t even starting this season. At best, he will be thrown in halfway through the season. Secondly, Pete Carol never utilized his rookie WRs who we still have no idea how good they can be. It’ll be the Cousins show most of the season. This isn’t the year we make a Super Bowl run. Solidifying the defense and O line are what is important right now.
I think Raiders GM John Spytek is doing a bad job of drafting. He passed on Armand Membou last year for a RB. Then passed on Luther Burden for a WR that can't get open. This year, he passed on Denzel Boston for a safety. Spytek is not doing a good job of helping Fernando Mendoza.
McCoy is a first round talent for sure.
But he will probably be near 2 years removed from playing football by the time he comes back.
His injury is downright awful.
At least the Raiders did this in the 4th round…
Idk man.
@TheRyBiv@Sandblackedout@FattMallonest A great risk to take, especially when you have guys like Crosby to mentor them. Juice is absolutely worth the squeeze here imo. It was a great value pick for a guy that would have gone round 1 without the injury concerns.

Archaeologists have made a stunning discovery inside a 1,600-year-old Egyptian mummy — a fragment of Homer's Iliad.
The papyrus was found tucked inside the gut of a mummy unearthed in Tomb 65 at Oxyrhynchus, an ancient city located 118 miles south of Cairo.
The excavation was carried out between November and December 2025 by a team including researchers from the University of Barcelona and the Institute of Ancient Near East Studies.
This marks the first time a Greek literary text has been found incorporated into the mummification process.
Previous discoveries at Oxyrhynchus had turned up Greek papyri used in burials, but their contents were always magical or ritualistic in nature.
The fragment found within the mummy belongs to Book II of the Iliad, a section known as the Catalogue of Ships, which lists the Greek forces that sailed to Troy.
The Iliad, composed around 800 BC, is widely considered the cornerstone of Western literature and centers on the Trojan War and the fate of the warrior Achilles.
Researchers are still unsure why this particular literary passage was chosen for the embalming ritual.
The funerary complex also yielded other remarkable finds, including mummies adorned with gold tongues and fingernails, heart scarabs, and amulets depicting gods such as Horus, Thoth, and Isis.

@MoonBeamMemes@WhosDiamondd@cenkuygur@joekent16jan19@MichaelSkolnik can't wait for the Yemenis to blockade the strait as well trapping the Americans in the middle for you to come back here and start crying about how the Yemenis shouldn't be allowed to do that and that "they don't own the strait" and it "belongs to the international community"
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

May God bless America.
@MoonBeamMemes@WhosDiamondd@cenkuygur@joekent16jan19@MichaelSkolnik what aggression? the war is over and they opened the strait again (even though it was already open to begin with before you retards attacked) but once again hypocrisy all around "it's only ok when we do it and the strait doesn't belong to the international community anymore"
