@KatiePMcGrady Silent reading time was my favorite part of school growing up, I cannot believe its been replaced with "play one the computer" time

My 3rd grader had both computer lab as an enrichment and a Chromebook in her classroom this year. The detox from tech that we’d have to do every day last fall drove all of us insane. So we made a deal in the spring: if the teachers let them have “free play” on the Chromebook (which seemed to be a frequent thing, it wasn’t really being used for actual instruction, it was just busy work/killing time), and if she had a choice of what to do, if she chose to read a book & then complete an AR test instead of playing bottle or doing iReady or scrolling Epic, we’d pay her $2 per book & test. I‘ve paid out about $120, but my kid’s brain wasn’t mushy after school anymore and her vocabulary & reading comprehension improved so much she jumped 20 points on the Star reading assessment they took at the end of the year.
Miss Sandrist@foreverimbetter

I think they should take chromebooks out of classrooms entirely because they’re glorified tablets. Bring back having computer lab as a class so they know how to save documents to their computer and include typing lessons as well

@apat10 I think people are being a bit too hard on Bear cause in what fucking world would a normal person think their wish would actually come true, let alone in such an odd way He does try to save her and ultimately does what's needed to be done to save her She's a victim of capitalism

I'm glad he said this because it's MY biggest takeaway from the film. Obsession is ultimately a tragedy where a woman is stripped of her autonomy for the sake of fulfilling a "nice guy's" fantasy.
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

Curry Barker says ensuring that Nikki is accurately portrayed as a victim in ‘OBSESSION’ was just as important as making her scary in the film. “What you’re left with is a really tragic story about a man & a woman & leaning into the realism of that was really important.”

the best movie trivia quiz is actually when your non-moviepilled coworker gives you a few vague statements about the movie they just watched and you noscope the title and lead actor and they act like you recited their social security number from memory

@allie__voss The Boulder farmers market only allows actual farmers or locally sourced food product vendors, and they have to submit an application yearly to prove they aren't resellers. Idk why every farmers market doesnt do that

One thing that needs to be studied is how “farmer’s market” used to mean “farmer’s market” …and now it means “open-air pop-up shop with laser cut wood signs, 3D-printed fidget toys, and some lady bedazzling Stanley tumblers

@NoFilterSkin I had a mouse infestation a few years ago bc my apartment neighbors brought a couch out of storage that was filled with them. I did wear a mask and gloves while cleaning but im kind of horrified that I should have been even more careful

A friend of mine died from Hanta Virus in 2005. He was 29 and in the prime of his life; one of the healthiest, most physically and spiritually fit humans I had the pleasure to know. I have been Hanta aware & cautious ever since, so this virus and preventive precautions aren’t new to me. It’s always surprised me how few people know about Hanta and the risks of exposure to rodent droppings. Recently I was helping someone clean up rodent droppings and they went to grab a vacuum! Nooooo! 🚫 Hanta spreads to humans primarily via inhalation of aerosolized particulates. My friend had been hiking in the backcountry in Colorado and was exposed while camping overnight in a cabin that had not been in use for a while, and there was dried rodent waste inside. Walking into a closed space and stirring up dried rodent waste puts you at high risk of exposure if Hanta is present. If you enter a closed space and see rodent droppings, especially dried ones, get out immediately. If you MUST re-enter the space, open all doors and windows for at least 30 minutes before re-entering. If you can, wear an N-95 mask. If you can’t wear a mask, do everything possible to avoid stirring up waste or dust. Don’t touch dried rodent waste without a mask and gloves. Better yet: mix up a spray bottle with 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and thoroughly soak all the possible surfaces that could have rodent waste on them. Let the bleach sit for at least 15 minutes before disturbing. My friend got home and came down with what he thought was the flu. Being a healthy person he didn’t think to go to the hospital until he was VERY ill. He died 48 hours later. 💔 If you know you have been exposed to rodent droppings and come down with severe flu like symptoms within a few weeks of exposure, seek medical care as soon as possible. Better to be safe than… not. Author — gallixsee

I'm sorry I'm depressed, I just did NOT bet on the total American collapse of respect for all humane and humanistic knowledge and literacy in my lifetime. Retrospectively, I should have, but I was under the naive impression people cared more. Even here. I know, I know.

@LmaoTf02 @_celia_bedelia_ There was a very pretty math teacher in my middle school who was also friends with my older cousin. She had to quit and I think ended up teaching elementary school because so many of the boys were obsessed with her and sexualizing her.

@_celia_bedelia_ to assume children will sexualize her is hilarious, kids could give a fuck less if their teacher has a bra on or not. she should put that energy in providing a quality education instead of imagining some teenage boy wants her ass 💀

@catgirlprostate The rich of the gilded age gave a lot of money away while still being pos exploitative monsters, but I think the difference was that there was heavy societal pressure to fund projects, plus it gave them a self-serving sense of "legacy"

The simple truth is that anyone with anything close to that level of empathy simply wouldn't be able to reach anything close to bezos levels of wealthy, because that amount of money requires unbelievable amounts of human exploitation

I don't get greed. If I had Bezos cash, I'd be fixing a problem every week. Homelessness? Not on my watch. Hungry kids in school? No way. Animal shelters full? I'll build 10,000 more.

what age are these kids where the parents need to be involved in this ‘important test’. like isn’t it just being given at school? what do you mean what time to be there?
Sarah McCammon📻@sarahmccammon

There’s an important test tomorrow at my son’s school and my moms thread today is basically just all of the boy moms mining all of the girl moms for any information about what’s actually going on and what time we need to be where - because none of the boys actually know!! 😅
