Xi told Trump today that Taiwan could trigger "clashes and even conflicts" between China and the United States. Beijing called the dispute "as irreconcilable as fire and water." Trump was asked five times if Taiwan came up. He said nothing. Then they walked the Temple of Heaven together. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning released Beijing's post-bilateral statement. Xi told Trump that "the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations" and that "if it is handled properly, the bilateral relationship will enjoy overall stability." Otherwise, Mao said, "the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy." Taiwan independence and cross-Strait peace, Mao added, are "as irreconcilable as fire and water." The language is the sharpest public Taiwan warning at a US-China summit in decades. The Trump administration has held a $14 billion arms sale package to Taiwan since Congress approved it in January. The package includes Patriot interceptors, air defense systems, and antidrone equipment. Administration officials told lawmakers the White House directed the hold for a successful Xi meeting. Trump told reporters Monday: "I'm going to have that discussion. President Xi would like us not to." Taiwan's parliament approved a $25 billion special defense budget last week. Trump and Xi held two hours fifteen minutes of closed-door talks at the Great Hall. After the meeting Trump said only the visit was "great" and "China is beautiful." CNN described him as "uncharacteristically restrained." Trump arrived at the Great Hall after 10 AM Beijing time. Xi opened by emphasizing partnership: "We should be partners, not rivals." He said the countries "both stand to gain from cooperation" and that "trade wars have no winner." Trump responded that the talks could be "the biggest summit ever" and that the relationship "is going to be better than ever before." Trump became the first sitting US president to visit the Temple of Heaven since Gerald Ford in 1975. The UNESCO World Heritage complex was built in 1420. Chinese emperors used it for five centuries for harvest rituals. The temple represents harmony between heaven and humanity. Mao described the economic outcomes as "generally balanced and positive." The language is diplomatic Chinese for modest deliverables. Expected announcements include a bilateral Board of Trade, Chinese commitments on Boeing aircraft, soybeans, and beef, and an extension of the Busan trade truce from October 2025. Part 3. The hole in the ozone layer is closing. The one that was supposed to kill millions of people from skin cancer. The one we all heard about as kids and then quietly forgot. It should be completely gone by 2066. In 1985, three British scientists stared at their data and realized a hole had opened up in the sky above Antarctica. Over the next 20 years, it grew to be larger than all of North America. If we had done nothing, two-thirds of the ozone layer would have been destroyed by 2065. Millions would have died of skin cancer. Global food production would have been cut in half. So every country on Earth signed a treaty. All 197 UN member states. It is the only treaty in history every single country has signed. It is called the Montreal Protocol, it banned a class of chemicals called CFCs, and it went into effect in 1987. CFCs were in refrigerators, air conditioners, aerosol cans, and hairspray. They were tearing the ozone layer apart. Two scientists had tried to warn us 11 years earlier. Mario Molina was Mexican. Sherwood Rowland was American. In 1974, they published a paper in Nature saying CFCs were going to destroy the ozone layer. The chemical industry called them cranks. It took a decade and an actual hole in the sky before people believed them. Both scientists later won the Nobel Prize. The treaty worked. Since 2000, ozone-depleting chemicals in the stratosphere have dropped by about a third. 99% of the world’s ozone-depleting chemicals have been phased out. The 2025 Antarctic ozone hole was the fifth smallest since 1992 and closed earlier in the season than any year since 2019. Full recovery is projected by 2040 for most of the world, 2045 over the Arctic, and 2066 over Antarctica. A lot of people reading this will live to see it. US government scientists estimate that 443 million cases of skin cancer and 2.3 million skin cancer deaths in the United States alone will have been avoided because of this treaty. Globally, the number is much higher. A lot of us are walking around right now without the skin cancer we would have had. When I was a kid, adults talked about the hole in the ozone layer the way people now talk about climate change. That was the villain. Everyone was sure it was going to kill us all. And then humanity actually fixed it. The hole is closing above Antarctica right now. You can see it on the satellite feeds.

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen on the internet. Afroman had his house raided by Ohio Adam County deputies… who found absolutely nothing… broke his door, trashed his place, allegedly had $400 go missing… and then they refused to pay for the damages. So, like any reasonable rapper would do… He turned his home security footage into music videos, mocking them. And then, the deputies sued him for FOUR MILLION dollars… because they didn’t like being made fun of. And Afroman’s response? He dropped ANOTHER music video. In his own words: “Unconfidential informant lied to Police to get out of some trouble. Adam County Sherriff officers made a mistake by believing the lie. Raided my house, found nothing, refused to pay for the damages and filed a lawsuit against me, Afroman, for exercising my freedom of speech! This is me holding trial in one song.
