Can we predict the spatial effects of single-cell perturbations? Excited to share our preprint introducing SpatialProp, which computationally propagates single-cell transcriptomic perturbations across tissues, along with key frameworks for evaluating spatial perturbation models.

My PI @KaraLMarshall is an incredible scientist & mentor who has many talents & skills, but I think today we’ve established that cake cutting is not one of them.

Happy #FluorescenceFriday ! Here is a 72 hour embryo of a zebrafish that is expressing a fluorescent protein (cmcl2) that localizes to the heart.

The first preprint from my lab! It was long believed zfish neural tube develops differently than in other vertebrates but we show that fold-and-fuse neurulation is conserved in zfish! And that NT closure is disrupted by loss of NTD risk gene vangl2. Congrats first author Jacie!

Who would've thought that the molecule responsible for touch sensation in the sensory neurons of our fingertips is also utilized in kidney cells to detect pressure? Check out the preprint of the research led by the outstanding postdoc Rose Hill. #KidneyWk biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I’m deeply honored & profoundly grateful for this honor of a lifetime. I share it with my husband, Stan Watson & all the Wakils. So grateful to my family, collaborators & mentors. I accept it on behalf of all those who dreamt to do science when it seemed like an impossible dream.

PhD Voice - Independently Run
I seem to run into a lot of people in academia who think that because they are experts in a given field that their opinions are the only ones that matter and should be listened too. But, being an expert in a field myself, I much prefer people not blindly believing what I say and prefer anyone with a good argument to be listened to instead. Am I weird?? #PhDVoice @PostdocVoice
