We're now seeking Supreme Court review of my case after the Third Circuit Court of Appeals declined to rehear it in a 6-5 split. This fight is about whether the government can detain and deport people for their speech. It can't end here. nytimes.com/2026/05/22/nyr…

🧵My new article: federal judge who paused US sanctions on Francesca Albanese (an Italian citizen living in Tunisia), claiming the sanctions violated her First Amendment rights, disregarded US Supreme Court's 2020 ruling that “foreign citizens outside U.S. territory do not possess rights under the U.S. Constitution.” 1/3 fdd.org/analysis/2026/…

@EsperanceAdy @DogWhoReads @brown_book_bug How long ago? I was assigned The Joy Luck Club, The Woman Destroyed, Silent Spring, The Left Hand of Darkness, Siddartha, and Henry V in my freshman seminar 35 years ago. Any one of those would destroy a matriculating freshman at the last uni I taught at.

Dems have lied to themselves about anti-zionism. A small minority if Jews see it as distinct from anti-semitism. Vast majority of us just see it for what it is - a cheap attempt to rebrand age old hatred and libel which just makes a mockery of the claims of moral high ground in recent years.

I spent the first 10 months of the Gaza war at the White House working on the response, then joined the 2024 campaign leading Jewish outreach. I spent nearly every day on the campaign talking to voters about Gaza. I don't have any data, but based on my experience a few thoughts on the autopsy and the role Gaza played in the election: 1. Anyone saying Gaza had NOTHING to do with the outcome is wrong. It clearly hurt enthusiasm and support among parts of the Democratic base. 2. Anyone saying it was THE reason is also wrong. The economy, the shortened campaign, and the inability to compete in many of the low-propensity voter spaces Trump dominated were all critical factors. 3. Most importantly: this was never fundamentally a MESSAGING problem. It was a POLICY problem. There was too much trauma, anger, and grief across different communities for there to be some magic set of words Harris could have used to make it go away. The only thing that might have changed the politics was actually ending the war through a ceasefire. I’ve said elsewhere what I think the administration could have done differently -- taking a harder line with Netanyahu earlier, applying more pressure, and publicly offering Israelis a credible alternative vision while Biden still had significant popularity and leverage in Israel. But that all would have had to happen in late 2023 or early 2024, before Biden became a lame duck. By the summer, it was largely too late. And to be honest, I’m not sure it would have worked. But I do wish we had tried. 4. One thing I do regret from the campaign: not having a Palestinian speaker on stage at the DNC. I wasn’t part of that decision. It was my first week on the campaign. I don’t think it would have changed the election outcome. But I do think it would have been the right thing to do.

After seeing the footage of the October 7 atrocities and watching American leftists celebrate with paraglider memes, I can’t overstate how important it is to me for every single Hamas paraglider guy to be killed. I want the activists to know that Israel killed every single one of them.

In 1945, poet Isidor Schneider wrote an essay called "Probing Writers' Problems," where he warned against viewing art strictly as a political tool. Among his criticisms is that doing so leads to shallow, wasted writing that can only age badly. His colleague, screenwriter Albert Maltz, wrote a response called "What Shall We Ask of Writers?", where he took Schneider's criticisms further: Maltz argued explicitly that the intellectual atmosphere of the left actively stifles creativity; that it creates a culture where art is judged not by the merits of the work but on the correctness of its politics; and that it vulgarizes art by turning it into crass political pamphleteering. Were these essays written today the authors would be condemned as "Far Right." But both men were Communists. And their words appeared in New Masses, a Marxist periodical. These guys saw the problems 80 years ago. And now modern pop culture is dying because no one paid attention.

A few days ago, many Jews were rightly expressing outrage at Nicholas Kristof’s grotesque dog-rape libel column, helping bring systemic antizionism itself into the field of attention. But yesterday and today, unfortunately, many Jews have once again been pulled back into the same antizionist complex of attention and hostility—not of their own making. Some have internalized antizionism so deeply that they feel compelled to participate in every new wave of global “condemnation,” treating these spectacles as if they were critique rather than the output of the very same ideological apparatus that produced Kristof’s column in the first place. The inability to discern that the obsessive global condemnation of a single Israeli minister derives from simply from hatred and bigotry does not make one credible or morally serious. It downgrades the credibility of Jews in the eyes of the world, who increasingly appear unable to set boundaries, name the actual hostility directed at them, or honestly identify the structures that continually target and degrade them.

The most telling part of the genocide debate is that the ICJ & the ICC have never accused Israel of committing genocide. That hasn't mattered to the many people who continue to claim they have. Last month, in an interview that has received conveniently little attention, the ICC prosecutor even told @mehdirhasan that charges of genocide were not brought against Israel due to a lack of evidence. You can watch that interview here: zeteo.com/p/karim-khan-u…
John Spencer@SpencerGuard

100% there is no genocide in Gaza. No eradication project. People confused about what the word means is culturally appalling and dangerous for the future of western society. The confusion has indeed been engineered by people know what they are doing. No genocide does not mean simply too much death and destruction in war. It is about intent and action to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, in whole or in part. Sam Harris @MakingSenseHQ is spot on.
