@Emma_Campaigner @virginmedia We moved to @SkyBroadbandd after VM would not give us a sensible price. Saved £££ per month and it includes @NetflixUK that we were paying for separately too. VM offered us prices that were lower once we cancelled.

@virginmedia Yeah, I know, but you know the old adage, keeping customers is cheaper than recruiting new ones. So I'll switch, and in two years you'll give me a cheap deal. Rinse and repeat. Very odd business model IMO

Any football fans out there? We're back from a #merckxmonday hiatus with a slightly different edition this week...as the Premier League returns this weekend, we thought we'd share a couple of rare shots of Eddy enjoying his second passion behind cycling, football! As you might expect from the Cannibal, Eddy was a top athlete in many other sports, playing basketball, table tennis & boxing, but football was his great love. He played in numerous charity matches whilst still riding, and remains an avid supporter of his hometown club @rscanderlecht , where for many years he has been in the stands cheering them on. He even wore the clubs colours with the veteran's team after retiring from road racing! Now could Pogačar do that!? 😉

@duaduauk @ShakinthatChalk @RogersHistory I got a 2:2 through Open Uni. If you are doing it part-time in the evenings/weekends whilst holding down a job, I can assure you that getting a 2:2 is hard enough. Plus, I'd argue that my industry expereince is way more useful than the degree in a classroom.

@ShakinthatChalk @RogersHistory You're ignoring grade inflation in universities over the past 30-40 years. 80% get a 1st or 2:1 these days so it isn't a big hurdle - it was less than 50% in 1989 when I graduated.

As Teachfirst plans to drop it's Russell Group uni requirements, I say - Good! The idea that having a certain level of degree or going to a certain uni is likely to make you a better or more elite teacher doesn't translate to reality. In my experience, you can be as smart as you like and have zero concept of how to relate to young ppl in classroom contexts. I think it's a myth that based your IQ, degree level or place of study, that it's much more likely you will be a good teacher. Maybe someone like @dylanwiliam can shed more light on this though. The fact TF are now talking about 'commitment to teaching' as key prob relates to the fact more TF'ers move onto other things relatively quickly compared to other training routes. Nevertheless, as much as I agree with changing this, it won't change the general attrition rates in teaching (in England esp) until more drastic things change.
