@LouieGeech @hugdel @sola_chad It is supported by the Bible without being explicitly spelled out. Jesus speaking to John at the foot of the cross, etc. But it doesn't need to be in the Bible. Do you believe Christianity? Or just Bibleism where you worship a book alone?

The Bible has 66 books, 40 authors, and was written over 1500 years. It contains approx. 1 million words, and The New Testament alone has 7,957 verses. There is not one mention of a prayer to Mary. All 650 recorded prayers are to God alone. Mary can’t hear you.
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

Mary is the Mother of the whole Church. Everyone can turn to her with filial confidence, certain of being heard, protected, and loved. #GeneralAudience

@sola_chad Protestants think Catholic veneration is worship, because protestants only venerate God instead of worshipping Him. Worship involves the real sacraments (including the sacrifice of the Mass as Jesus instituted) and priesthood. Not just a gathering of believers praying or singing.

@McNasty Probably the first one, but the catch is that a bad person who is a Christian has a much better chance of becoming a good person than an atheist does. Also, atheists often have a mistaken idea of what being a good person even is.

Question, is every truth of Christianity contained in the Bible? If you answer yes, please explain. And please don't respond with: -"Yes, you can't call yourself a Christian otherwise" - this is an assertion but provides no argument or reasoning. -"See look, Catholics value man-made traditions over the Bible" - this isn't accurate, but even if it was, it still does not provide any reasoning in favor of Sola Scriptura. -"Yes, the Bible itself says that every word is profitable for teaching, and that man lives on the Word of God, etc." - yeah, the Bible is necessary for Christians and contains no errors. But it doesn't say the Bible is the only source for all Christian beliefs or practices. I would like an argument in favor of Sola Scriptura that is an actual argument instead of deflections, insults, or plain old "because it is" asserting.

For what it's worth, NFP is also a sin if used without good reason. It would, in fact, be sinful for a couple to get married and immediately practice NFP for 3 years simply due to not feeling ready for children yet. They should not have gotten married if they were specifically planning to avoid having kids.

You can literally rework the argument for marriage. NFP takes an act designed by God to produce children (the marriage itself) and frustrates it by altering it so it happens when the woman is less naturally inclined to want it, thus using her body for his pleasure not its intended use within marriage.

The pro-contraception Christians don’t know that you can have regular sex without contraception. AND, get this, without conceiving constantly, also.
Walter Snacklefox 🎚️@snacklefox

@TheMuppetPastor Restricting them sounds like legalism to me. I'd rather that parents have regular sex with contraception than no sex at all I think.

Jesus Christ literally gave us all those things in order to provide salvation. That's like saying all you need to drive is a car, and you don't need gas, oil changes, car insurance, or to keep your tire's aired up, since those twke away from the car's complete ability to drive in its own right. See how this completely misses the point?

@TharosProject @JustAGuy_tbh It literally says "God" in the picture, which, if you understand the Trinity, you know means Jesus and the Father (and the Holy Spirit) are all included in the diagram. They are prayed to as equals in one God while being distinct persons.

@JustAGuy_tbh The Son and Father are DISTINCT persons. One God, three persons. The Son ALONE mediates for us to the Father. How can you misunderstand this?

@Wannu001 @ALifeAfterTech @leshaami Bottom line is, we have to do what we can to save ALL lives involved. Sometimes babies tragically die. But we can absolutely not be the ones to do it intentionally.

Yes, that works. Removing a fetus to save your life, is a legitimate medical procedure. It's not abortion, though. It's moving the location of a baby, and regrettably allowing it to die afterwards. Whereas an abortion is killing a baby directly, then removing its remains afterwards. Big difference.

@leshaami Okay so you promise not to bring up rape or the mother's life being in danger as an argument for abortion? You admit the right to kill one's child is absolute and does not require a desperate situation?

Anyone who leaves for any reason other than actual violence or abuse, is a scumbag, either gender. I wonder which gender is more likely to initiate divorce for reasons of "the spark is gone", "I just don't feel in love anymore and I could do better", or a vague sense of emotional abuse you can't articulate.

When women are diagnosed with a catastrophic illness, they’re often given a brochure to prepare them for when their husband inevitably leaves. “In sickness and in health” doesn’t seem to apply. Too many men want a domestic labourer. A mother. Someone to work for free.

Very true. And not just a simple "I accept Jesus as my lord and savior." That's easy to say in the moment. You have to lead a moral life according to His Church. He will offer salvation to everyone, but it's up to us to "walk the walk" and be serious about it, or we're not going to heaven.

It would require a serious, genuine confession from the heart, not just "I believe in Jesus". And let's be real, most of these people aren't going to do that. But some might. Who are we to decide what sin is forgivable and what isn't? Like actually. Where do you, based on logic and reason, draw the line? I'm not asking about your personal emotions- I want to know how you think God should judge who gets a chance for forgiveness and who doesn't.

But you're still forcing birth against her bodily autonomy. And again, viability is at the sole judgement of the current medical expertise of the day. You can't possibly base someone's fundamental human rights off of someone else's subjective judgement on how treatable they are. Homeless guy drugged out on the street, probably going to die of an overdose. You shoot him in the head to put him out of his misery. You are charged with murder. You're not providing health care.

@MrBasedGuy @pinkheretic That is why viability should be the cute off point. At that point the baby achieves a level of autonomy it did not have before. It can be safely removed and kept alive in a hospital. It can be seperate from the mother and live. At that point it has achieved personhood.

No, I mean right to life as in "right not to be intentionally killed". I'm not talking about failure to go to extraordinary measures to save someone. Which I think is a failure, but isn't murder. Abortion is different. You're not failing to save a dying person. You're intentionally ending a healthy life, for your own reasons.

@MrBasedGuy @pinkheretic Not at the expense of someone else. If you need a blood transfusion and I am a match, your right to life doesn't require me to sustain you. That is why viability is the key.

@MrBasedGuy @pinkheretic The question here isn't is a fetus a human or a baby at conception, it is when that fetus is counted as a person with the same rights and protections as any other person.
