@adamscochran But that’s clearly wrong. They shouldn’t be. Therefore that cannot be the correct interpretation. Trump’s interpretation makes more sense. It must therefore be correct.

The constitution does not say they are not subject to that nation nor does it say they must only be subject to one nation. It simply says they must be subject to the jurisdiction of the US at the time of birth. Here's an easy test for that: - Does the US have the authority to arrest and detain said person? Yes. Because they are in America and subject to its jurisdiction and laws. If they are here, and subject to our jurisdiction at the time of birth - that's it, that's all the 14th amendment requires. It does not require they be devoid of any other jurisdictions or capacities.
Geiger Capital@Geiger_Capital

Justice Alito once again nails it… If a Chinese or Iranian person enters our country illegally and has a child here, their child is automatically a citizen of that foreign nation, and is even required to fight for that nation. How are they not "subject to" a foreign nation?

@ForwardCarolina No. The 14th was never intended to give citizenship to the children of illegal aliens. Therefore it does NOT do that. Trump is correct. I am the main character. My opinion is the only one that matters. Anyone who disagrees with me is evil and/or stupid.

Here's the thing: if you oppose birthright citizenship, that's an opinion you're allowed to hold. It's a free country. It means you support changing the United States Constitution, which very clearly and explicitly says anyone born on American soil is a citizen. But pretending that the U.S. Constitution doesn't say that, just because you don't like it, is a silly child's game. Birthright citizenship is a foundational principle of what America is all about, and no President, no matter how ignorant or delusional, is able to change that with the stroke of a pen. That's just not how America works. 🇺🇸

@adamscochran There can be no such thing as conservative judicial activism. Conservatives are seeking to maintain the orginal intent. That’s what it means to be conservative. Only progressives an be activists. And they are always wrong for doing so.

It isn't the job of SCOTUS to decide if a rule works today or not. The mechanism for changing the constitution, is a constitutional amendment. SCOTUS may only interpret and decide if something is legal *under* the constitution. Alito is suggesting judicial activism here - you know the thing that MAGA screeches about and hates and claims is constantly happening when judges follow neutral laws they don't like?
Eric Daugherty@EricLDaugh

🚨 BREAKING: SCOTUS Justice Samuel Alito says it PERFECTLY on birthright citizenship He suggests that just because illegal aliens were not a problem at the time the 14th Amendment was adopted does NOT mean they shouldn't be addressed today Nailed it. ALITO: "Justice Scalia had an example that dealt with this situation. He imagined an old theft statute that was enacted well before anybody conceived of a microwave oven, and then afterwards someone is charged with the crime of stealing a microwave oven, and this fellow says, well, I can't be convicted under this because the microwave oven didn't exist at that time." "And he dismissed that. There's a general rule there, and you apply it to future applications. And what we're dealing with here is something that was basically unknown at the time when the 14th Amendment was adopted, which is illegal immigration. So how do we deal with that situation when we have a general rule?" JOHN SAUER: "Yeah, I strongly agree with the way that you framed it, that there is a general principle that's a broad principle that's adopted in the phrase, subject to the jurisdiction thereof, and we submit that our theory of allegiance and domicile-based allegiance is what explains those specific exceptions that everybody was aware of, but it is broad enough to sweep in future situations, and as you pointed out, illegal immigration did not exist then." You can almost ALWAYS count on Alito!

Personally I think people are completely misreading Jackson. She's not dumb; she's uninterested in following legal principles she doesn't agree with. She's not unlike Scalia in the early days, and I think the future of liberal jurisprudence is much more likely to look like her than Kagan.

@Noahpinion I keep thinking about all the money the spent on the Central Valley train to nowhere. If they had spent half that on bart it would be a world class public transit service.

Instead of a dying service that needs constant bailouts because it lets junkies and creeps ride for free, BART should install fare gates everywhere and be a thriving public transit system that working class people can use to get around without a car.
Garrett Langley@glangley

BART added fare gates in August of 2025, and by last month there were 500,000 more rides compared to the year before. Lower crime in public spaces means that public services are better for everyone.

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is a sales tax on you home rather than taxes to pay for public services you use every day. “I paid off my home why do i still pay property taxes?!?!?” Oh, did you also stop using the roads and libraries and sidewalks and parks? Not worried about fires anymore?

The word "communist" has lost all meaning in MAGA world. Let's fix that. What communism actually is: • State ownership of ALL means of production • Abolition of private property • No free markets • Single-party authoritarian rule What US Democrats actually support: • Capitalism with regulations • Private property rights • Free markets with safety nets • Multiple parties, free elections Communist parties in US Congress: 0 Socialist parties in US Congress: 0 Democratic Socialists (Bernie-style): ~5 out of 535 The Democratic Party would be center-right in most of Europe. Biden and Harris are capitalists. Always have been. But you call everything you don't like "communism" because: 1. You can't define it 2. You never learned political science 3. Fox/OAN/Newsmax told you scary words = Democrats 4. You're in a cult that requires an enemy "Do your own research" means YouTube videos. "Communist" means "thing I don't like." "Patriot" means "person in my cult." The states with the worst education rankings vote the most Republican. That's not a coincidence.

🚨 do you understand what Iran just said tonight.. a senior official went on CNN and told the world that Tehran will "determine when the war ends".. and they "will not stop until we teach Trump and Netanyahu a historic lesson".. read that again.. let me show you every country that looked America in the eye and said the same thing.. Vietnam 1965.. "we will fight until the last man".. America bombed them for 10 years.. deployed 500,000 troops.. spent $840 billion.. and left in 1975 with nothing.. Afghanistan 2001.. the Taliban told reporters "we are patient.. you are not".. America stayed for 20 years.. spent $2.3 trillion.. and flew out of Kabul in the middle of the night in 2021.. Iraq is still burning.. Libya is still split in two.. the United States has more aircraft carriers than the next 10 countries combined.. spends more on defense than the next 9 nations put together.. and hasn't won a land war on someone else's soil since 1945.. so when Iran says "we'll decide when this ends".. they're not making a threat.. they're quoting a pattern that nobody in Washington wants to say out loud...

@TheAliceSmith I think you should get more votes the more money you pay I taxes. Maybe it should be directly proportional to the amount. Maybe you get an extra vote for every tax bracket. Maybe you can volunteer to pay extra taxes to get more votes. I’m still working on the details.
