Arsenal Injury Update
Disclaimer: All timelines are subject to change depending on the nature of the injury / rehab & recovery process.
- Martin Ødegaard - Pushing to be back for Southampton, Arteta to make a final call this week.
- Jurrien Timber - Also aiming to be back for Southampton. Arteta press conference body language experts needed.
- Declan Rice - My understanding was he has been carrying a knock pre-City. Sent home on the advice of England medical staff. Would not be shocked if he is rested this weekend.
- Bukayo Saka - Red zone fatigue, this rest has come at the perfect time. Sent home on the advice of England medical staff. Wait to see how he trains this week before Arteta makes a call for this weekend.
- Noni Madueke - Feared the worst but thankfully the injury is described as minor after assessments. Im told he is aiming for Sporting / Bournemouth
- Martin Zubimendi - Minor knee discomfort. Assessed by Spain medics and sent home for recovery. Another one I wont be shocked if he is rested again.
- Piero Hincapie - Im told, its a minor knock and the player is taking the precautions to rest and recovery on the advice of Ecuador medical staff.
- Eberechi Eze - Player is still in rehab for a lower leg injury. There is some optimism he could return earlier than the original time line but one to monitor once he trains on grass again.
- Max Dowman - Im told he was sent home from his P.E lesson by Steve the supply teacher. The Overlap could possibly do a whole segment on it, who knows?

@ItsBigZuu @troopzafc I’m the same. I got Highbury privileges when my twin brother started playing professionally and knew some of the younger Arsenal boys. Ryan Garry used to bless me with tickets. Had no network or knowledge of how to go to games before then. Was around 17-18yo
English

@troopzafc None of my friends growing up had any family taking them to games bro honestly it’s dark most of my mandem went to their first games when they could afford it
English

Didn’t you have any friends who went games?
I never went with my dad but my friends dad had a season ticket at Highbury & made me a junior gunner then took me when I could get tickets.
Zig Buu@ItsBigZuu
Not everyone grows up with the privilege of being taken to football matches with their Dad

@ConMarbleHalls AFC fans are currently in a state of ownership, where they feel we are about to achieve everything. This leads to people fee there is a ‘right way’ to support the club. Often their own way.
In short, it’s pathetic. Leave him be. He’s on TV and most of it will just be jealousy.

@CDEccleshare @Carra23 The most important point isn’t being discussed. Football fans, irrespective of the team, are very simple human beings. A generalisation of course but it is what it is. If the English media had a problem with City and Chelsea then so would the fans.
English

@Carra23 We both agree (you in the column, me at the bottom of this thread) that it's mad that City, given their dominance + the charges against them, are the neutrals' choice. But it's been like that for basically a decade. Because them winning stuff is totally numbing for most neutrals
English

It’s not bizarre at all, you say ‘rooting’ for City which I totally understand they don’t provoke the same feelings as others, but people aren’t rooting for City, they WANT them to beat Arsenal!
That’s the difference.
The column looks at why.
Thanks for bringing more traffic👍
Charlie Eccleshare@CDEccleshare
For someone who seems generally to have his finger on the pulse of fan sentiment, this is a bizarre take from Carragher. Neutrals have been rooting for City over teams they care about for basically the last decade. telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…
English

@JamieLFC901 @Carra23 Try again. It was similar fans discourse when Arsenal were challenging for the title in 23/24. That isn’t the reason Arsenal are disliked. Definitely try again.
English

@Carra23 Arsenal are disliked because champions should be entertaining and they are the opposite of that. The PL champions should be playing a style of football that every other team would love to emulate. With Arsenal it's just dark arts and set pieces, it's boring and so is the PL.

@SkySportsPL @Carra23 2/2
Society and British media play a large role into why Arsenal aren’t received like other clubs. The north/south divide, Arsenal’s history with Irish and Black players, Wenger’s “foreign” ideas breaking the minds of English football….all of this has led to where we are.

There is a conversation that not many will have loudly because it’s uncomfortable and I think Carragher’s working class beginnings will have him aware - you just can’t have that conversation on Sky Sports. This is an A to B problem, not B to A.
