Florida students deserve high-quality education, and great teachers deserve recognition and competitive pay. But time and again partisan school unions have shown that they do not act in the best interests of the teachers they purport to represent, let alone the best interests of students. Today, I was proud to sign legislation to hold unions accountable and to reward the educators who go above and beyond to inspire students across Florida.

Clearly you don't have a master's degree so you don't understand. Before you go crazy I am a DeSantis fan!

@JMFL06 @GovRonDeSantis It's not to make lots of money. It is to survive in this economy. Central Florida is very expensive to live in. We manage well. But I'm speaking for the other teachers out there! My wife can get a job anywhere but she loves working and helping kids. That is her passion.

In short, the unpopular, but realistic response is this: tax payer funded jobs are usually intended to be service roles more so than careers. They've made these roles into careers in many cases, offering decent benefits and pensions, but one of the reasons that Florida is a preferred place to live is because we have no income taxes, and things are generally well managed. It's a trade-off. The private sector pays better, if the sole intent is to make lots of money.

Someone goes to college and gets a Masters degree and you want them to take less money is crazy! Why go to school?

@MrLRG3484 @GovRonDeSantis Where did you relocate from? If it was states like CA or NY, you can't possibly expect the state/county/local taxes to pay the same ridiculously high wages required to survive in states where the cost of living is at minimum, 2x more than FL.

This is why our country is never rank in the top for education. Our kids are the future! Take less pay!

My hope is that they raise the pay for them so they don't have to work multiple jobs. Florida is one of the lowest paying state for teachers in the country. This is not a cheap state to live in.
