Tonight here in Bucha, we are holding a night of remembrance. 561 civilians were killed here over 33 days of fighting and Russian occupation. Across the entire territorial community surrounding the city, more than 1,000 people died during that time. Hundreds were shot by Russian soldiers, and the bodies of many lay in the streets and against walls for weeks, until Russia's defeat and the return of Ukrainian forces to the city, along with the global media. And the name of this comfortable, prosperous suburb of Kyiv among the woods became a shocking symbol of atrocity and inhumanity, images that went around the world. This is the church in the center of Bucha, next to which a mass grave of 67 bodies was found. During the occupation, people buried their dead as best they could -- like this, in a pit beside a church. Every day I can see that church from my home in the distance, and every time, I remember how we were present at the terrible exhumation of that enormous grave. That's something I would want to forget forever. A memorial complex now stands on that spot.

Where did all the Ukraine “aid” actually go? Because it’s looking like yet another example of massive fraud perpetrated against the American people, and it definitely needs to be investigated @jsolomonReports tonight my triggered podcast with all the breaking details!!!

I hated electric cars but I have to drive one now for salary sacrifice. An I4 e40. Just checked my bmw app. I’ve spent £111 in 6 months on charging my car from home. I used to spend £120 A WEEK on petrol with my M4. That’s nearly 3 bags. 340bhp and rwd 🤷🏾‍♂️. Actually nuts

People really aren’t aware of how poor Europeans are. The most common salary in Spain is €1,298 per month. An average apartment exceeds €250,000. If you manage to save €250 per month, you’d need 1,000 months to pay for it. That’s more than 83 years to buy yourself an apartment. Is it really worth having public healthcare instead of private insurance when you have to live poor your entire life?

@jonburkeUK @DeborahMeaden Jon, surely there’s lots of areas of North Sea oil that are well worth drilling at $100 a barrel and not worth it at all at $60 a barrel. This is the number one factor on whether to drill more isn’t it?

The Shadow Chancellor is wrong. The North Sea is going to shed another ~45,000 jobs by 2035. More drilling will make absolutely no difference to that. This entire pearl-clutching exercise is entirely about serving the fossil fuel industry, not the people of Britain.
Mel Stride@MelJStride

Not drilling the North Sea - when Norway is doing exactly that - is absolute lunacy. It’s costing jobs, it’s costing tax revenues, it’s making the economy weaker and it’s damaging our energy security. We MUST Scrap Net Zero dogma. Drill the North Sea. Axe the Fuel Tax Hike. Put Britain first 🇬🇧

Russia spends the equivalent of $150 million USD per day fighting the US proxy war in Ukraine. Rather ironically, oil price hikes caused by the Strait of Hormuz closure are bringing in an extra $150 million per day, just on Ural crude alone. I cannot imagine the level of rage the European ruling elite must be experiencing right now. They sacrificed their economies to destroy Russia economically, and now Russia's revenue streams are healthier than ever.

@panamabill08 Not a single power station can be decommissioned through addition of more intermittent sources. The more intermittency you add, the greater the grid instability, and the more expensive grid balancing becomes. There is no scenario where renewable energy leads to cheaper bills.

If wind energy is producing 20GW that means you have to have 20GW of conventional generation or interconnector imports on standby for when the weather drops off. You are paying for two energy systems. You have to have a serious brain injury to not understand this.

We’ve built cheap energy but we’re still pricing it like it’s expensive. The UK uses a marginal pricing system, where the last (most expensive) generator sets the price. That’s usually gas. So even when most of our electricity comes from cheap wind and solar, households still pay gas prices. That’s why bills haven’t fallen. Getting off gas pricing is about fixing the system by reforming the electricity market so gas no longer sets the price, building storage so we don’t rely on gas for backup, reconnecting with European energy systems to smooth supply, reducing gas demand through insulation and heat pumps, and continuing to expand renewables so gas is needed less and less. Until we do that, cheap energy will keep being priced like expensive gas.

@silvercue @Suewilson91 We don't own 'our' oil and gas. Thatcher sold it. Norway didn't sell theirs to city traders. They sell it to countries like the UK. I hope that clears it up for you. Dimwit.

We should have done a deal with Russia. That way Europe would still have cheap energy, we wouldn't be sponsoring the destruction of European energy infrastructure, and Russia wouldn't now be actively assisting Iran in disrupting the world's energy supply. But it was more important to send Ukrainians to their deaths over a scrap of rust belt, just so they can be replaced with Africans.

Yep. The right’s obsession with renewable energy as ‘woke’ is only going to look more stupid with time. Electrification is perfectly sensible from perspective of energy security. Cars, train, buses.
JamesFennell MBE@FennellJW

80% of buses are electric in China. This has nothing to do with Net Zero, its all about energy security. We need to be a lot less ideological about the energy mix - if we make it lets use it, wind. nuclear, oil, gas or solar.
