I mentioned in passing to a possibly autistic man in a casual conversation that I was a journalist. Now every time he sees me, he shouts “BBC!” I’ve explained to him a few times that I don’t work for the BBC. Just now, in the Indian restaurant, he shouted “BBC!” at me again. He’s with his friends so I just explained politely that I don’t work for the BBC, that I never would. So he said “ah, so you’re Far Right then, are you?” I explained that there’s no such thing and that politics is all theatre. One of his friends said “so you ARE then!” I smiled and walked away. Hope I wasn’t too harsh.

@Markmaycott2 Nothing more frustrating than automated machines telling you that the password you input is wrong...despite saved details using the CORRECT password for months...and it's just decided to fart you around😬 I despise non-negotiable tech!🤬

@Ryan_Jackson15 @racingblogger Not sure if that 'too close to the pace' is a valid enough excuse. Maybe the ground as I said prior to the race was too quick for her? Stable also not bang in form as they usually are so I wouldn't be too concerned about her Arc bid - she's gonna be excellent value.

@racingblogger She was in perfect position. Minnie Hauk far too close to the pace. Cellini & Calandagan just slightly too far back to get to Kalpana as she had first run

@dreedle_general @racingblogger Good examples besides Ombudsman are Pilsudski, Daylami & Falbrav who were superb in their final seasons, improving plenty...yet I can't recall any who went backwards.

@dreedle_general @racingblogger I strongly suspect he'll bounce back in style...but has Ombudsman improved past him? Who knows...as he looks better as a 5yo and it's now in question with Calandagan. As I've mentioned...I can't recall a 5yo at G1 who's regressed, as they're very likely to find even more.

@racingblogger I'm embarrassed to say there were 5 ahead of her for me despite respecting her as a G1 mare - I'd assumed we'd already witnessed her ceiling - how wrong I was as she won fair & square. As a Calandagan fan, I'd just like to see her performance replicated, though I'm not doubting.

@DavidCa14313648 @MartinDEvelin @FrankelWatch13 G1 in name only - an egg & spoon race. Estrange isn't the issue here...its Minnie Hauk! You say 'capable'? She put up an easily career best against top opposition on very soft! My hands always go up when I call one wrong...as I did with Kalpana - I just didn't see that coming🙄

@MrMickey142 @MartinDEvelin @FrankelWatch13 Regarding the going, a trainer is more likely to know a horse's preferred ground than fans will ever do. Some horses are capable of winning on soft ground but are better on good to firm ground. Estrange won a Group1 on good to firm ground.

Minnie Hauk is underestimated in my view. The race will be set perfectly for her actually. She needs 12F, she needs a high pressure race. She will get exactly that.. Action will go hard from the word go. He then will be joined by Lambourn in the back straight. Lambourn will be tracked by Minnie Hauk. He will launch her in the straight. Minnie will BE the first one to commit. A bit like in the Arc. Kalpana and then Masquerade Ball will be making their run. Calandagan and Goliath will come next but will quickly make a bee line. They will come fast and quick. Big Ben will be tracking Masquerade Ball or Kalpana. If he is good enough he will keep up at them. If not, he will be left in their wake. Calandagan all the while will unleash his long sustained run. I think Goliath's run will peter out at this time and Kalpana will remain one paced trying to get to Minnie Hauk. Masquerade Ball and Calandagan will go overdrive. Minnie Hauk will be in front and will stay there for as long she can and it will be all a question whether she can hold on or not. Obviously that is an hypothetical scenario. Races are not run on paper and it could be that the race is run in an entirely different way. I am just sharing how I think it will unfold. I might be wrong and that's okay. What a race this promise to be though.

@MartinDEvelin @DavidCa14313648 @FrankelWatch13 "Minnie Hauk is at her best on fast ground" Hello bud - It wasn't you who made that comment...which I strongly disagreed with before the race. It was just a very relevant concern and there's MUST be a doubt until it happens in the highest grade...comparable to her BEST run.

@MitchellBazley The people saying Calandagan isn't that good obviously didn't see or have forgotten that superb Champion Stakes victory - how do you all explain that away? Ombudsman over his fav C&D was swatted like a fly and NO excuses! Best 10f performance I can recall since Baaeed won at York

@harryxafc @racingblogger Notable examples being Ardross, Pilsudski, Daylami & Falbrav - already quality but found extra as 5yos. There's no reason why Calandagan won't get back to his best. Maybe they can decline from 5 to 6yrs but NOT 4 -5yr. WFA addrersses this as 4yos receive 2lb in the Ascot Gold Cup

@harryxafc @racingblogger I don't think so - I'm sure he'll be back at the top table soon. There's speculation that he's NOT the same horse as last year but I can't EVER recall a 5yo G1 performer that regressed as they'll often find more improvement...when they physically mature and fill their frames.

I know it's easy to say now, but running Calandangan in that disgusting bog at Epsom was a terrible mistake. It's cost him back-to-back King George's! 💔 The horse has a huge heart to keep going in these top class international races.

@JulianA77467026 @racingblogger I'm desperate for a reasonable excuse for Calandagan too as Kalpana DID win fair & square...though I can't help question the merit of the form. Barza rode him fine and there were no sob stories...and that perplexes me as I AM convinced he's star quality.

@racingblogger You may be correct in your hypothesis Stephen. But it also it sounds like your wallet is doing the talking. The winner won fair and square, was pulling away and was given the best ride.

@DavidCa14313648 @MartinDEvelin @FrankelWatch13 Do you still think I was wrong to have doubts on the ground for her?😳And your evidence is against an inferior opponent in a poor 4 horse race who notably needs cut? You'd take that in preference to a superb Arc second on very soft against the best around? You're very wrong!

@MartinDEvelin @MrMickey142 @FrankelWatch13 MH was ridden to set the race up for BC. This is the first time she was ridden so prominently. Regarding the ground, she won the Yorkshire Oaks on good to firm ground beating Estrange.

And I still underestimated him. How do I keep doing it. He averaged 111 and it should have been more. Dirk didn’t put in a 100 avg like I thought… but 2 good predictions tonight. Hopefully I can get a 10 tomorrow. Overall: 8/10 (Not doing the women’s Matchplay, gonna be out)
CBWDarts@CBWDarts

Luke Littler 17-7 Dirk van Duijvenbode I’ve learnt my lesson. Expect Luke to average 110 again. I’m fully expecting it tonight. Dirk’s gonna play well, averaging close to 100. He has nothing to lose… but it won’t be a good result. And why not. Another Littler nine darter too.
