@kelvmackenzie @kelvmackenzie, Timpson's are giving ex- criminals a chance to make a meaningful contribution to society. It is fair to this is better than someone lying about a disaster at a football match. Just saying.

Delighted to see the Timpson family received nearly £22million in dividends last year ( up 50%- weep your heart Burnham) driven by an 18% jump in its car key business and a huge rise in watch repairs, now twice the size of its shoe repairing side. Timpsons staff have one thing in common with politicians ; 10% were ex-criminals.

@DavidCa14313648 @i_horseracing @RailwayWalker He sort of was although it may be my pocket remembering. Try My Best flopped, Danzatore flopped, in any case I was around when it was falling apart including the Classic Thoroughbreds fiasco. Billy McDonald’s famous Fairy Bridge tip to the groom saved Coolmore.

The Railway Walker
The Railway Walker@RailwayWalker·
It's the Irish 2,000 Guineas at The Curragh today. Possibly the most 'infamous' race in it's history was the 1981 renewal. To Agori Mou, fresh from winning the English version, went to post an odds-on favourite. He was pipped on the line by King's Lake from the all-powerful Vincent O'Brien stable. The result was overturned in the Stewards Room, then overturned again in an Irish Turf Club courtroom. It led to a huge diplomatic row before a trilogy played out between the two horses in England and France and made the front pages as well as the back. Racecard and the report on the race from @PowellJfpracing for his column in the following days Sunday People. #irish2000guineas #thecurragh

@i_horseracing @RailwayWalker O’Brien was far from “all powerful” at that stage. People forget how badly he struggled during the last years of his career.

Paddy Prendergast's Ballymore is seen winning the 1972 Irish 2000 Guineas on his racecourse debut. Earlier, Paddy's eldest son (Kevin) had saddled Pidget to win the fillies version, initiating a memorable classic double for the family.

@cmoreton99 A rare thing nowadays. It happened twice in Irish Classics in the 70s with Lady Capulet winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas on debut in 1977.

@ciaranodeorain @The2000Guineas Princequillo's daughters were noted for passing on stamina to their progeny. Did Mill Reef full sister run over middle distances as a 3yo? In the 1970s, it was not unusal for potential middle distance horses to run over 6 furlongs as a 2yo.

Looking at the pedigrees of the 1,2 in this year's 2000 Guineas , there is on paper a very definite question mark about their ability to stay 1 mile. Their dams never won beyond 6f and Gstaad is a brother to a 6f Group 1 winner. Is something changing in the modern pedigree ?

@The2000Guineas Don’t know if anything has changed tbh, you do get pedigree anomalies here and there, Mill Reef wasn’t bred for 12f for example NOT a miler as well and SSB did sire State Of Rest

@DubaiAce @Chelsearory English managers have won one tournament between them and it was held on English soil. To be fair, the managers are not the problem. The players have not been good enough.

Edward Hide won every English Classic, bar the 2000 Guineas. His Derby victory aboard Morston in 1973 was unique in that Hide had never sat on the horse until getting a leg up in the paddock at Epsom. It was only the second time Morston had set foot on a racecourse.

@DubaiAce @holybulll If this is also applied to horses trained in North America we would not have had the Triple Crown winner, Nijinsky or as the Americans call him Nijinsky II. In the late 1950s there was a USA trained horse with that name.

How on earth did Coolmore get the name Thomas Chippendale for a 2yo colt. It’s only 13 yrs since the last one who died just past the post with a heart attack after winning the Hardwicke Stakes. I remember John Murtagh jumping off and cradling him in his arms. Even more poignant

@WeaverRacing @Tomptin Expelling Southampton after they have won the tie seems unfair. If anything they should have been expelled befoe the tie was played.

Grundy (nearside) is put through his paces a week before the 1975 Derby. Following his Epsom victory, it was announced that the Levy Board had acquired a three-quarters share in Grundy for £750,000 and that he would eventually stand at the National Stud.

In 1980, the first past the post in the 2000 Guineas and the winners of the Derby and Oaks never ran again that season. Henbit cracked his off-fore cannon when bravely holding the challenge of Master Willie in the Derby (pictured) and was confined to his box for three months.

@William99754232 @cmoreton99 Assert had his limitations shown up in the King George. Golden Fleece's acceleration would have been the decisive factor in any race with Assert.

@cmoreton99 On a line through Silver Hawk, Assert would have taken some stopping in the Irish Derby even with Golden Fleece in the field. Assert was progressing rapidly in June 1982.

Jubilant scenes as Golden Fleece is led in by Susan Sangster following the colt's brilliant victory in the 1982 Derby. Pat Eddery claimed later in his career, that this horse was the best he ever rode. Sadly, he never ran again, so we can only wonder what he might have achieved

@cmoreton99 @William99754232 Noted. However, Nijinsky won in 2:34.68, and Slip Achor in 2:36.23. Nijinsky's final two furlongs were run in 21.85 seconds, included in that was a 10.60 penultimate furlong. I am probably missing something on the factored in element of the performance rating.
