Spent the day finalising our T&L Playbook for next year. Core techniques are a mix of @TeachLikeAChamp and @WALKTHRUs_5 strategies. The playbook details the what, how, when and why of each, with videos from @Steplab_co for teachers to explore in labs and with their coaches. 🤓

I've been working on our questioning and behaviour management courses, and I think it's now my strong opinion that questioning training is a complete waste of time if students calling out in lessons is a common occurrence. >

Because of this, I've written this in the training notes for our Supercharge Your Questioning course. I just don't see how it's justified even *thinking* about this kind of stuff when calling out is a widespread problem. Interested in others' thoughts. /end

@ianwhite21 Genuine question- we have done some booklets a few years back but it proved to be very expensive to print and also led to some ‘coverage’ teaching rather than responsive teaching. Any thoughts?

@adamboxer1 As a maths teacher I was struck by something my friend said. It’s all very well everyone studying STEM subjects but when you get home from work, what do you do? You watch sport/tv/films, you go to gigs/theatre/cinema, you listen to music. Who does/makes that if we all study stem?

I'm firmly within the "high academic expectations for all" camp, but we also sometimes need to be dial down the rhetoric. Saying that "there is too much content in some GCSEs", or that "it's sad more students don't have the chance to choose music/art" isn't low expectations.

We start every foundation lesson with a booklet of ten 1&2 mark questions, aimed at repetition. Builds up in difficulty in both calc & non-calc topics. 80 pages worth. Seems to help reduce errors at the start of papers. Feel free to take a look. tinyurl.com/ylsb3sv5

@Miss_Snuffy Could this work with marked worksheets in a subject like maths to highlight common misconceptions. Sometimes it’s easy to spot these but can be prone to recency bias or other biases.

A while ago, someone posted about high frequency maths topics for GCSE exams. Anyone remember who it could be or point me in the right direction of the website?

@EmathsUK As Mark is someone I respect more than most, I will take time to read this properly; even a quick skim reveals some fantastic and challenging ideas. If there isn’t already, there should be a govt panel for each subject and @EmathsUK would be one of the first in line for maths

The first draft of A Mathematics Manifesto is now live. This is a call for action to improve mathematics education - moving it beyond the basic number skills needed for everyday life and economic utility and reclaiming the mathematics curriculum for mathematics itself. By defending mathematics as an intellectual pursuit, we restore its rightful place in education: not as a means to an end but as a discipline that transforms minds and grows thinkers who can tackle the most profound challenges of our time. Mathematics is not just for the marketplace – it is for the human mind. emaths.co.uk/blog/mathemati…
