Introducing Orchids, the world's first vibe coding IDE.
Orchids can build, watch, and listen on par with a human developer.
Orchids ranks #1 on App Bench, the most rigorous benchmark for end-to-end software development.
An agent, IDE, built-in browser, Supabase, and Stripe all in a single tool.
Local, no lock in, no browser limitations - the next step forward in building with AI.
Comment for 100k free credits at orchids [dot] app.

@TylerAlterman This sounds wonderful and timely and overlapped with a lot of what I’m writing about. Have you read much Terry Pratchett? It just hit me that “egregorics”, in one form or another, may be his most consistent theme. chatgpt.com/share/678c70d8…

I finally finished my novel, Psychofauna, after 5yrs of writing. Lmk if you want to be a beta reader and I will send you the manuscript!
The synopsis: the whole world turns telepathic. Huge psychic organisms like cultural myths and sentient ideologies wake up and go to war. As these “psychofauna” possess millions of people, an awkward kid tries to save his family from being torn apart. Meanwhile he is guided and pursued by various mental wizards & mindbody masters.
It's good, I promise, but I need you to make it better

I feel like I know two types of people
(A) those who are moved to do something about the immense suffering of others but do so in a really unhealthy way that ultimately undermines itself through burnout (see: many EAs and activists)
(B) those who are more focused on personal happiness/meaning/fulfillment and yeah, suffering of others sucks, but it’s not their inclination to do anything about it
There is a secret third thing, an alternate category that I want to occupy with others

Ok, I'm actually in awe and a little frightened by this.. take a listen to a bit of music I made in Dreams on my PS5 that I then used with Udio's new audio upload function that lets you guide an AI track using music instead of text.
I think this is a beautiful track and it sticks very close to the mood and style of my original. Any musicians out there who use these tools as an extension of your excisting workflows?
The AI vocals kick in at around 0:40..

@TylerAlterman Built to as in evolved or built to as in universally traumatised? Or both?

I know some of you (ego psych ppl cough cough) think the entire world runs on status. This is bs actually
It is true for *a lot* of the world, but most environments I spend time in just don’t operate this way. Eg amongst a lot of my closest friendships & some scenes, it’s not as if status doesn’t rear its head. Instead: it’s that the primary motivations for behavior seem to be non-status things: intimacy, creative collaboration, geeking out, reverence, etc.
But if I put a status-is-everything person in one of these environments, I think they wouldn’t buy it. They’d see status everywhere. And…actually they’d often be right.
Here’s the thing: If you view all behavior in terms of status, it’s a self-fulfilling worldview, a worldview that creates its own evidence. It’s a belief system that will almost certainly at least influence your body language & tone. And since social mammals *are* exquisitely sensitive to status, you probably start activating status-y behavior in everyone around you
Even I’m not immune to this. As much as I like to think of myself as undommed by ego, I very often find myself engaging in status behavior around ppl who are treating our interaction as a status game. I’m ashamed about it, but we’re built to do this automatically
How to escape one of these worldviews that creates its own evidence? Try a practice of view: for a day, drop the idea that everything is status. Instead, *deliberately* try to confirmation-bias yourself into a different worldview. Like: everything is love. You need to lean into this experiment with sufficient dedication to see it work, but don’t do this to convince yourself. Rather do it to notice how easy our worldviews become self-confirming

@ylecun It seems clear that if a face photo – or better a 2 second clip – were captured as standard each time vitals are taken and appended to medical data, that training set will soon let bots intuit likely disorders at a glance. First org to scale this will revolutionise care.
English

If the practice of medicine could be learned purely from text, training physicians would not require years of residency.

Pretty much everyone in my family is a medical doctor. I often hear there's great intuition in practicing medicine effectively -- a gut feeling about whether a patient is healthy, from many subtle signals. Like riding a bike, medicine won't be automated by AI trained on text.
