Language hierarchies exist and very early on children learn what holds perceived operational value . We know all languages matter, all variations & dialects are valid, all ways of communication are valuable.

@SandemanKevin Thanks for addressing this. You are right that there must be space to disrupt anti-Jewish racism. Religious and ethnic identities can often become racialised and so similarly, anti-Muslim racism must be examined. I will now include definitions to reflect this

@Penny_Ten A great exhibition. I found it fascinating how the boundaries of both art and artist, and viewer and artist blur. Having a window into the artist’s world reveals a clear message about our own activism - you can’t remove the self

An idea arising from this is to introduce some shared principles (below) alongside our school values that adults and pupils must follow to ensure everyone’s safety. One which supports everyone to act on their embodied responses and think about their impact 3/

Pupils’ reflections showed that classroom discussions linked to social and global issues, particularly those relating to social injustices, can force them to process their own experiences of injustice which can sometimes leave them distressed 2/

After collecting pupil voice on current representation of our diverse cultures, we have reflected on how explicit safeguards can be established so that courageous conversations facilitated at school take a trauma-informed approach to ensure they are sensitive and mitigate harm 1/
