Exclusive bombshell investigation in tomorrow’s Sunday Express: The number of people being removed to countries accused of gaming the UK immigration system has plummeted, the Express can reveal. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is under growing pressure to impose visa bans on countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Jamaica as returns to these countries dropped by as much as 88%. And it comes as the number of people claiming asylum from some of these countries surged by a staggering 373%. The number of removals to Pakistan fell from 5,198 in 2015 to 1,237 last year. This is the biggest drop of any country worldwide. Guerrilla spray painting is one thing, but you can’t just rock up to a plinth in the centre of one the busiest and most surveilled cities in the world, assemble a multi-ton statue (presumably using a crane) and then disappear into streets like Batman. You’re talking disrupted traffic and heavy goods vehicles, and probably some kind of permission from the local authorities at bare minimum.
