@howlindavies You’re arguing against a point I never made. We should invest in the academy, and Spurs do. Which academy players specifically should have had significantly more minutes, and ahead of who? Which academy players have left to go on & have standout PL/international careers?

@howlindavies All clubs lose their players to City etc and vice versa. City have the biggest budgets with Chelsea for academy recruitment. The academy system is hard to understand unless you work in the game & judging talent and the jump to first team is even harder.

@howlindavies They give them minutes because it adds to their transfer value. United were the masters of this for the last 20 years.

@Mr_Spurs_OG We don’t know though. I have seen United, Liverpool, Chelsea, City, West Ham, Arsenal give their kids minutes in cup games and substitute appearances in the league. Why can’t we do the same?

@GaryRWard We're on the same page. There are set roles and responsibilities in the academy, the game model is set by the Head of the Academy but in consultation with the sporting director. It is easy to have more continuity without a dependency on the first team manager.

Head Coaches don't tend to be interested in the Academy, given their time at clubs is so short and the need for instant results and wins. I've been told several times that past Spurs Head Coaches have kept away from the Academy because the club don't want it changed or messed with. The whole club's alignment hasn't been there for years.

The lack of a pathway at Tottenham is clear to see, not only to us fans but also to those within. It's a dangerous game we're playing with our Academy at the moment. #THFC #SPURS #COYS #TOTTENHAM #SPURSACADEMY

@GaryRWard Managers have to "win now" in the PL and unless it is a generational talent, managers aren't interested in blooding academy players unless they have to. Also, it isn't always about ability, it's about mentality.

@Mr_Spurs_OG True, but if the opportunity isn't even there for them to even get a chance, it's difficult to know if the player is good enough; otherwise, the Academy is worthless in the long run.

@GaryRWard I work in football and it is now all about loans. U21 PL 2 football isn't a barometer for a player's quality as it isn't mens football. The pathway is a loan, show your ability at a high level of challenge (see Vuskovic), and demonstrate you are ready for PL first team.

@FootballForeca3 I think this is BS. RDZ isn’t talking loosely about players - click bait nonsense. Tough decisions will have to be made though & judgements won’t just be on talent or potential talent, it is also about income and profit.

Some rumours that De Zerbi does not rate Gray and Tel that highly. I think both will stay. Seems like Bergvall is the most likely to leave. Fans need to be prepared for a hard reset. Many of these players don't fit the timeline of THFC now. Many won't get enough games unless injuries hit again.

@GazzaTHFC IMO playing in Saudi & nowhere near the Dutch team, I don’t feel like we missed out. I can’t think of many players we’ve moved on that have gone on to have good careers at the top level other than when top teams have taken our top players.

Bergwijn wasn’t given a fair crack. He was genuinely class. Fast, strong, could pass, eye for goal and had the work rate and we just… binned him for a few average performances where he played about 20 mins every three weeks. #COYS #THFC

@GazzaTHFC I appreciate the stats weren’t minutes played, however fans only see the tip of the iceberg (matches) which are a tiny percentage of time compared to what decision-makers see.

@Mr_Spurs_OG See this has been an issue with Spurs. We bring in a promising player, sit them on the bench for two years and then go “ahh they weren’t good enough anyway” and we’ve ruined their career to an extent. Those stats don’t take into account that he played about 5 seconds a game.
