Last couple of seasons were rough, but I'm so happy Gabby Jesus got to experience this season and moment with us. For me he's representing Jorgi, Zinny, Granit, Ramsdale, KT, Tomiyasu, and all the other guys that helped turn our fortunes around but left along the way.

Bournemouth finished 9th last season, the highest league finish in the club’s history and followed it up by selling their entire defence that made it possible. Kerkez, Huijsen, and Zabarnyi were all sold for a combined €175 million, while Semenyo, arguably their best player and most decisive attacking player, left in January for €60m. On paper, that level of turnover should have weakened them significantly, especially for a club without the financial depth of the traditional top sides. Instead, Bournemouth have improved. They currently sit 6th in the table, setting yet another club-record finish and qualifying to play European football for the first time in their history. All that’s left is to wait until the weekend to find out whether it’ll be the Champions League or Europa League. What makes the achievement even more remarkable is their form since Semenyo’s departure. Bournemouth have gone 17 matches unbeaten since selling him in January, which says a lot about the structure, coaching, and collective identity Iraola has built rather than reliance on individual talent. The sustainability of their performances despite major sales is probably the clearest indication of the level of work Iraola has done. It’ll be very interesting to see where he goes next, especially with him expected to leave at the end of the season.

I honestly thought about this today. I looked up the wage bill of every player in Freiburg, the goalkeeper is on 20k per week😭😭😭 How about signings? Freiburg’s record transfer is 15 million euros, like in their history, that’s the record. These other leagues cannot compete. They better learn marketing and sharing formula from the premier league, else, they’ll keep blowing them away. Like, you’ll see Forest, a small team in England can spend more than Porto, champions of Portugal, and pays players more than them😭

Wonder if it’s dawned on Uefa how much the dire format change has weighted the Europa League and Conference League in favour of English clubs. Premier League clubs have budgets to blow counterparts out of the water and Villa are blowing Freiburg away.

Aston Villa end their 30 year wait for a trophy in Europe. Spurs ended a 17 year wait for a trophy in Europe. West Ham ended a 43 year wait for a trophy in Europe. Palace have a very good chance of winning their first European trophy next week. Massive congratulations to Villa and I don't mean to take anything away from those teams, or their supporters... But the financial advantage that the Premier League has over the rest of Europe, appears to have ruined the competitive balance in the Europa League and Conference League. Real Madrid, Bayern, PSG, Barcelona, they'll always be able to compete in the Champions League due to their immense pull in attracting the best talent... But in the two competitions below? Different story. But take tonight's game... Aston Villa wage bill for 24/25 was reportedly £273m, Freiburg's was £20.6m. That's just not a level playing field!
