@ESL_fairy @iamnoadaniel It is a possible tool sometimes as long as kids enunciate well enough. Have had many a student where speech to text does not work well.

"How am I supposed to scribe for six kids at the same time?" is a very valid question asked frequently by overwhelmed classroom teachers. Here's my favourite hack for tech-assisted verbatim scribing in English and other languages as well: youtu.be/oaoqEiEfjwM?si… #OntEd

@JBradshaw01 @DarylZahra The data is flawed. If a student doesn't write it, it goes in as a zero. They use mean and not median. The math questions test language skills. Cannot use resources or interpreters. We differentiate then expect one size fits all test.

@DarylZahra I certainly agree that policy should be data driven, but isn’t it a problem that while millions of dollars has gone into EQAO for decades, including paying some very high salaries, experienced teachers like you and I can’t name a single beneficial policy it’s led to?

EQAO scores are used to sell real estate, which I suspect is the extent of the Financial Post's knowledge and interest in them. #OntEd

@RegionWaterloo So garbage truck just put the garbage in the green bin side. One of the borrowed trucks. Sad that all that green bin separation for the whole street is now wasted.

@dailystem Another use for eggs.. put math problems in them. Each has a number and point value. Each team of kids can come get one egg at a time. Amazing how much practice and collaboration happens.

Here’s a quick STEM starter: Put random items in plastic eggs & have kids make hypotheses of what’s inside

@ESL_fairy Should include attendance monitoring. Parents need to be held accountable. When kids get huge gaps due to attendance there is little the school can do. This is one of the reasons some are rejected from programs like fast forward. Lots of wheels and gears need to work together.

@MrsFrier 😢 If we want to reduce school dropout rates, we need to provide the programming and support that students need to be successful at school, starting in Kindergarten.

All kids have the right to an education and deserve to thrive in school. This sometimes means a specialized program with trained staff to fully support a child’s needs and maximize their learning. Ontario needs to properly fund special education to set all kids up for success.

New: The TDSB has suspended Grade 9 enrolment next fall at two high schools that specialize in supporting students with mild intellectual disabilities. Some parents are concerned it's the first step to closing the schools outright. #onted #onpoli torontotoday.ca/local/educatio…

My daughter had her first day substitute teaching yesterday (2nd grade). She felt like a failure and was stressed about what to leave in the note. What advice do you have for the note at the end of the day? (By the way, she did not fail, she did a great job. Impostor syndrome is real... and your first time doing anything is a learning curve! Any tips she would greatly appreciate).

When a substitute teacher leaves a good note about my students, I always read it to them to reinforce that good behavior. And whenever you see a substitute in your school, thank them for being there and let them know you’re willing to help if they need anything.

@ESL_fairy I keep a stock bucket in my freezer. Just throw "waste" in there until ready to use it. Made veg stock last weekend. Pressure cooker had it done in 20 minutes. Half went to soup and half into freezer.

@VictoriaTheTech It is horrific. The town only has 2400 residents so everyone knows a lot of people affected. 💔 The whole country is saddened.

I was traveling yesterday so I am just now hearing about the mass school shooting in Canada and I am absolutely heartbroken. It’s the country’s deadliest school shooting in decades, and most of the victims were children.

@MikeJToronto I wonder how much support the trip overseas would get us. I'd like some science consumables and paper and some more MLL support.

@MikeJToronto That is my theory. Not safe on school property Cause it was a gorgeous day here. And storm stopped as predicted before call to shut here. And we only got 10 -15 cm here.

Snow storm effectively stopped late Sunday afternoon in Richmond Hill, Vaughan. Roads are cleared. I guess schools are closed today because school property couldn't be cleared on time? Too bad we didn't have a better system. #onted #ycdsb #yrdsb

So we got 10 cm ish. Up north that is a daily thing. Then again, they know how to plow and build to allow for snowbanks. It's a beautiful sunny 🌞 morning.

@ESL_fairy I'm quite surprised here. Doesn't seem bad to me but perhaps there is no confidence in roads and lots getting cleared. Then again, I'm a northern girl so driving in the snow is 2nd nature
