@Maidenheadlab @TravelodgeUK I’m not shocked. This is the company that let this happen; then did nothing to tighten their security for 3 years until the woman who had been assaulted raised it post prosecution. I suggest that they don’t care 😡

We're shocked to learn this. This is a lapse of judgement by @TravelodgeUK's executive leadership -- almost as bad as offering a token voucher to a survivor of sexual violence in lieu of what took place in their Maidenhead hotel.

I cannot understand why @TravelodgeUK CEO has cancelled the scheduled MP meeting to discuss this today. I’m pleased the PM just raised this at PMQs. Women need to know they are safe when they sleep. Travelodge should have no issue providing this assurance as a minimum.

A woman gets sexually assaulted in her hotel bed while she's literally asleep. Some random dude strolls up to Travelodge reception at 2am, drops her name, claims "I'm her boyfriend," and they just... hand him her room number and a key card. No call to the room. No ID check. No "hey, does she know you're coming?" Nothing. She wakes up to the nightmare. He gets convicted. And now, in 2026, Travelodge has to announce a shiny new policy: Staff must actually get explicit consent from the actual guest before giving anyone else access to their room. Let that sink in. This wasn't some high-tech security failure. This was "don't hand strangers the key to a sleeping woman's private room" needing to be written down as official rules because it apparently wasn't before.

I wonder if it’s because some MPs don’t even seem to understand what they’re advocating for? Because you clearly don’t understand why the PHSO made their recommendations for waspi compensation
Or because they blame other parties despite the errors being made when their party was in office?
Remember the PHSO recommended compensation to waspi women not for Tory policies, but for poor notification during the last Labour government
Or maybe it’s because you just implied that giving £billions to millions will be good for your electoral prospects in upcoming elections?

The key reason why so many councils are effectively bankrupt - the scrapping of the audit commission in 2015 removed the last check-and-balance to "market chaos". Not all quango red tape was bad...some saved us fortunes.

@brian_millin @jackmrankin I am surprised by the verdict but I didn’t sit in court for 5 days listening to evidence so 🤷♀️. The “comparator” case is one where the person being prosecuted pleaded guilty too, so different on that count too

@jackmrankin How is this two tier justice . Found not guilty by a jury . If found guilty and sentence unduly lenient yes by all means call it out.
It’s a fundamental of our justice system we abide by jury decisions and only appeal review sentencing
