If a student asks you for an accommodation (ex. an extension) because of their mental health, what do you do? I'll tell you what I do. 1. Validate 2. Accommodate 3. THANK them for prioritizing their mental health! Teach youth that something positive comes out of asking for help.

@gerrydee I teach HIP4O Personal Life Management. We learn everything you mentioned besides cursive and spelling.

How about a new mandatory course in high school called “EVERYDAY STUFF 101”. Cursive writing, spelling, money management, manners, sending and answering emails, public speaking, learn about compassion and humility. Over and over until they master it. That’s the course!

Mental health cannot be separated from social determinants of health. To improve mental health on a population-level, we need to ensure that people have safe homes, jobs, food security, free medical care, and community connection. Structural change required.
