It is, in very large part, the inheritance of decades of American evangelical missionary expansion across sub-Saharan Africa, which exported a very specific brand of social conservatism, anti-abortion politics and patriarchal authority dressed as scripture, long before Trump existed. When a man in rural Uganda or coastal Kenya tells you he loves Trump, he is often telling you what three generations of American church money have taught him to value. That is not African conservatism but American cultural imperialism . The "elite Africans with big English" you are dismissing are historians, economists, anthropologists and political analysts who have spent careers studying the structural conditions that produce poverty, authoritarianism, and dependency on the continent. The expertise accumulated through that work, through decades of fieldwork, peer-reviewed scholarship, and lived political engagement, is not something a CNN microphone can approximate, no matter how confidently you hold it.

Dropped by over here to say, the loan that Ruto is getting from UAE does not stand alone. It is 'facilitated' by the deal on Galana Kulalu. Now, that Galana deal, if Kenya is ever in any situation that makes it hard for UAE to run things at Galana or inconveniences them, Kenya would have to pay full value as compensation. And for a 103 Billion deal, those penalties, inconvenience fees and costs will pile up quick, fast and more. Don't believe it? Look up the deal that UAE made with Chicago on parking meters in 2008 under Park Chicago. These deals need to be stopped. They will yoke Kenya and raze our economy through costs. Moreso, we just might have to forfeit a chunk of Galana Kulalu to UAE at some point to offset payments. We will lose the money loaned, we will lose the land and we will pay extra. Cannibalism privatisation brought by greed of President Ruto.
