Memory & Meaning. An old (2019) poster retweeted as now there is a welcome return to considering the central role of meaning-making in the learning process — when it goes beyond lists.

Task completion is a poor proxy for learning; this is something I wished I'd known in my early years of teaching. Here is a one-pager I have created for @PepsMccrea, summarising his notion of Backwards Planning.

Here are my three latest one-pagers I created in collaboration with @MaryMyatt, @ChrisMoyse and @PepsMccrea. I am currently working with a few amazing people to create some one-page summaries.

Teach in Asia get ANYTHING kitschy from Lazada... Introducing the ultimate must have reward for hard work, interest inversely proportional to student age

Casually getting my year 12 FM students to do all our recruitment and PR for next year's Y12 intake. Will not be doing this for any Numerical solutions Qs though 😴😴

🗣 Pulled out some quotes from my recent one page summaries. Powerful words from some inspirational people in education: 🧠 @DTWillingham & Professor Robert Bjork on memory 🫵 @teacherhead on Rosenshine / checking for understanding ✍🏼 @dylanwiliam on making feedback actionable

Here we go folks 🙌 Is there anything that you only found as a result of the restrictions on face to face teaching that you will keep using when things are back to normal? 🎯 A resource 🎯 A website 🎯 A technique 🎯 A change in the way you do something #TeachBKKchat

@TeachBKKchat Good question. I think there is more pressure in Years 11-13 for sure. It's just hard to tell what is normal and 'healthy' examination anxiety and what is problematic. Which is why I think voice and trusting students to manage their own learning are such powerful tools!

And finally... Obviously be cautious in what you reveal about your context and setting, but speaking generally... 🎯Existing staff more likely to stay/go? 🎯New staff harder/easier to recruit? 🎯Is Thailand as attractive to prospective staff anymore? #TeachBKKchat

@TeachBKKchat Technique - I'm thinking through modelling/checking for understanding ratio in so much more detail as if a class are online you don't get the instant feedback of confused faces 😂 Plus a student reluctance to ask if unsure means im checking much more frequently #TeachBKKchat

@EoinLead4change @TeachBKKchat Pre recording key modelling is a small time investment in advance but so useful long run. I've started doing all my whiteboard work now on jamboard for y12 and y13 so they can revisit 'the lesson' when revising or if something didn't stick at the time

@ThtPedagogyGeek @TeachBKKchat Yes. I've only done this in KS5 too. I actually think the structure with reasonable/negotiated deadlines works better for the majority of KS3 and 4.

Ok on to the next section A really important consideration as it looks like (for now) we may be leaving online and hybrid learning behind from January #TeachBKKchat

@The_LittlePilot Is that the same across all stages KS3 same as KS4 and Ks5 for example ? Do we think different years are handling it better than others so far? #TeachBKKchat
