WATCH the video @FCPSNews refused to air. A school board representative told her the video was "not selected" to be broadcast in one of the three video slots allowed the community. Stephanie watched the meeting and was stunned to see only two videos aired. School board chair @ElaineTholen responded to her, saying "this somehow fell through the cracks." Did it? The Fairfax County school system has a budget of $3.5 BILLION, and its board members and superintendents have put not only parents but also Gov. Youngkin and his administration in its crosshairs, at the expense of education, transparency, good governance and honesty. If a video, free speech, parents' rights and the First Amendment "somehow fell through the cracks," what does that say about the stewardship of children in the school system and their education? Already, the school board has dropped the ball as its principals have been caught hiding National Merit awards from students and the nation's No. 1 high school, Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, falls from #1 in the nation to #5. Virginia Attorney General @JasonMiyaresVA is investigating the school system for its anti-Asian bias. Gov. @GlennYoungkin and Lieutenant Gov. @WinsomeSears have spoken out clearly against the school system's war on merit and parents. The obsession of school board members with activism, instead of education, has now landed the school system in the Supreme Court as the @CoalitionForTJ fights the school board's anti-Asian racism in a new admissions process to TJHSST. A federal judge ruled that the school system denies Asian children their constitutional right to equality under the law, protected by the 14 Amendment. We wake up at dawn sometimes to rush to grab one of the few coveted spots school boards allow. ▪️Friday, Aug. 25, 9:30 AM, Lundquist-Arora submits a video. She speaks on a topic in the news: the school board's decision to fight a policy by @GovernorVA to protect the right of parents to be informed if their children use a different pronoun, name, bathroom or locker room than the one the parents know. ▪️Background: This issue has pitted northern Virginia school boards, like Fairfax County, against parents, with school board members claiming that parents may represent a threat to children if a child is "outed" to parents. Watch and you'll see what parents like Stephanie say: parents have a right to be informed about their children's lives. Numerous studies prove that a child's wellbeing improves with parental engagement. Agree or disagree with Stephanie, she has a free speech right to express her views. She in fact filmed her video with "FREE SPEECH" and the American flag behind her. Government officials denied Stephanie's constitutional First Amendment rights. This is what happened next: ▪️Wednesday, Aug. 30, 12:47 PM: Stephanie gets an email from Desiree Wunderlin, administrative assistant for new school board clerk, Christina Setlow, telling her that her video was "not selected." Wunderlin explains, “because more than…three eligible individuals signed up to provide video testimony at the August 31 Regular Meeting, individuals were randomly selected.” Setlow replaces the school board clerk allegedly badgered out of her job by school board member @MelanieForEdu when she refused to take down the American flag from the school board office. ▪️Thursday, Aug. 31, 10:43 PM: Stephanie watches as the board shares only two videos during "citizen participation." She notices the meeting agenda also only indicates two scheduled videos. She emails Wunderlin: "I'm very confused...Why did you not play my testimony, where I spoke in favor of Governor Youngkin’s model policies, at tonight’s meeting?" ▪️Friday, Sept. 1, 8:56 AM: Stephanie emails school board chair @ElaineTholen: "I would like to schedule a meeting with you..." ▪️Friday, Sept. 1, 10:33 AM: Not hearing back from Wunderlin or Tholen, Stephanie calls Wunderlin, who doesn't answer, so Stephanie leaves her a voice message. ▪️Friday, Sept. 1, 3:38 PM: Tholen responds: "I sincerely apologize for this confusion.  I am not sure what happened....this somehow fell through the cracks." ▪️Monday, Sept. 4, 9:03 AM: Stephanie isn't buying it. She responds to Tholen’s email. “The clerk sent me, and likely only me, the email," indicating that my “video testimony was not selected to be presented at the School Board’s August 31 Regular Meeting.” ▪️Monday, Sept. 4, 10:59 AM: Tholen emails Stephanie. “Hi - let me dig into this a bit further and get back to you.” Again, this isn't about one mother, one video and one excuse. It's about a pattern and practice of ignoring parents' voices, steamrolling the governor's policy directives, refusing to listen to "community participation" and denying citizens their constitutional rights. This is the failure of governance not only in one community but across America, as school boards and elected politicians, refuse the will of we, the parents. What is the solution? School boards must abandon their partisan political biases and engage sincerely and honestly with we, the parents. ###
